Confirmed Signing Allan

You're getting worse than Zat.
I'll let you decide that. We're different. He's thinking we should make up half the squad out of youth team players. I don't agree with that, but we are on the same page in that spending big on older players isn't where we should be in terms of the process of building a squad.
Anyway lads @Zatara will be on in a bit to blow your heads off with lists so y'all better SCATTER.

Well i actually really like Allan and think he'd be one of the top midfielders in the league if he can carry his ability from Italy to England.

Hes not a top 6 quality player...hes top 4 level.

Allan will be starting for the next 3 years comfortably. No we’re not gonna make a profit on him, he might even leave on a free but that doesn’t matter. What we spend on Allan will literally be made back and then some once we sell Davies, Gylfi, Tosun Besic, Bolaise etc.

Spending money on the likes of Allan is not a problem who cares his age he’ll be one of our best players for the length of his contract. Look at the players I listed, all bought in or before their “prime” (except Davies obviously) and we’re gonna stand to make massive losses off of them whilst also not getting contributions on the pitch.

If we bought a team full of 30 year olds who finished consistently in the Champions League for the next 3 years would anyone care about their ages? No. Because it would progress the club and allow us to spend money on younger players at that level.

If Allan helps us consistently get into Europe for 3 years then he’ll help us attract a higher quality player and it repeats and repeats eventually until we’re competing, it’s sustainable. Also whether people like it or not we have no issues whatsoever with FFP because Richarlison is literally a £100m+ player in today’s game as well as many very profitable assets like DCL, Holgate and Digne. If we’re so badly in trouble Richy can be sold and a team could be bought entirely from his fee. Obviously none of us want that and I don’t see it happening but I’m just saying it because people clearly have the idea that things are dire when they’re not.

This summer hit us with the pandemic like it did with the vast majority of clubs in the world. Come next summer things hopefully will be back to normal, we’ll have shifted the vast majority of the deadwood through sales or expired contracts and we’ll have had a full season of Carlo, I’m always reluctant to say it but things could be looking up and that starts with this transfer.

No team not with in range of the title has spent what we're about to spend on a 29 year old. It's more risk than most teams take on with almost no chance at the reward. Maybe it works out but this is without a doubt one of the riskiest transfers anyone will do this year.

Leicester bought Jonny Evans at 29/30 to shore up their defence and they improved.

Wolves bought Moutinho into his 30s and he became their regular starter and they improved.

West Ham signed Payet when he was in his late 20s, was one of the best players in the league and they improved massively.

Now you may say these were for all smaller fees but these transfers were all for teams with less money than us and also £25m is just the market that we’re in these days. A nothing player in the league goes for £15m these days. Hjobjerg went to Spurs for £15m with a year left on his contract.

This is far less risky than West Ham did with Payet, they paid over £10m which was a lot for them then for an unknown unproven player and it could’ve got them relegated, it got them Europe. We’re paying £25m in today’s market for a proven Champions League player who’s been wanted by numerous clubs for ages and were put off by a huge price tag and now he’s decided he only wants to play for our manager and has rejected Champions League teams in favour of us.

The risk in this transfer is not on us, we’ll be fine we’ll easily recoup anything we pay for him from other non contributing players. He’s risking never playing at the highest level or for his country again if it doesn’t work out with us. I really don’t understand how someone could be negative about this in any sense. Being honest a player of his ability shouldn’t be considering playing for the 12th best team in England going off of last season but he is and that’s that. I hope we end up paying the near €40m they want for him, because that means we’d have met the performance related bonuses they want in the deal and that would be mean we’ve actually progressed as a club.

£25m is a bargain. Wait and see.

Evans and Moutinho were under 10m.

Payet is a great example of what I kind of don't want though. Ok he comes in and is great and we finish 6th or 7th and then for whatever reason he is done and we are back to where we started. I just want more than that.

Jesus mate, lighten up a little, you're putting years on me, yourself and everyone.

Ok, big gay Al's 29 and I get you have reservations, but look at what a steaming pile of horse dung he's going into with our midfield - we need a ready made proper baller/snide/winner of a cm to go right in, who the manager can trust to do what he wants quickly - this fella gives us that for a good few years (fingers crossed!) - he improves us and the players around him from day 1 him landing.

The age thing needs to be put to bed, which is where I'm off - keep the faith brother, in Don Carlo we trust.

Moutinho is on over £100k a week and as I say they were cheap compared to now yeah but that would’ve been a chunk of their teams’ budgets that’s what I’m saying. Proportionally it’s much the same. Allan now compared to any of the players I’ve mentioned is far superior. Also as I say the price of players is inflated massively in the past few years. Buying Moutinho now would easily be £15m at 31, Evans the same if not more, however were getting a far better quality player for just a little more.

I believe we’re gonna be spending £60m-£75m this summer depending on sales but if we spend basically a third or less of our budget on what would literally become our best player it’s a no brainier.

As for Payet that was literally nothing but West Ham’s fault. They could’ve sold him for massive profit after the year and reinvested in their squad or they could’ve told him to stay put and build the team around him but they did neither and tried to see what they could get for him, backed out and left him unhappy. Even still they made profit off him. West Ham didn’t progress because they didn’t invest in the team not because Payet left.

My read on the current situation from: this thread, other sites and open source jarg.

Allan: Agreed personal terms, Bill haggling over a packet of crisps with Napoli. Napoli have other interested parties, but Allan wants Everton with Carlo playing a large role thus the hold up with negotiations.

Doucouré – Again he wants to come, we have an agreement with his people but given our history with Watford and us looking for a cut-price deal given they have gone down and need to sell are holding this up, smart to be patient with this they will sell.

Thiago Silva – Will be announced after the CL final.

Looking for a backup LB, new improved RW, and guessing a RB but a lesser priority, if one comes in JJK goes on loan again if not he stays. GK no clue if the talk is true or not but would not be surprised if we get somebody, whether it will be another backup or truly somebody to challenge for the #1 spot – no idea.

That I think will be our business this term, a long list to get out the door and if very successful that may allow some extra spend in a position or 2 depending on who (what positions) we can shift.
