Didn’t Bernard have personal health issues for a bit last season?
He was having panic attacks.
Yeah something to do with his mental health remember arguing on here with someone about him taking the mick for Bernard coming out and talking about it
Maybe that it was it, then. I did think it strange that both Ancelotti and Silva were reluctant to use him most of the time.

If he isn't going to play regularly, he definitely isn't worth the massive wages, but I'd prefer him to Iwobi on the left.

Is this Bernard you're talking about?

If so, I thought he was decent enough in his first season; brought a lot out of Digne, and was someone you could rely on look after the ball.

I wonder if something went on behind the scenes last season. He barely got a look-in, and when he did play there seemed to be a distinct lack of enthusiasm.

It is.

I agree on his first season and honestly think for the first half of last season he was very consistent when he played, albeit a tad frustrating that he hadn't really kicked up a gear.

After the season restarted he was poor, but a player of his physicality was always going to need that time.

I'm not saying he's amazing. If a good offer came and Carlo thinks he can get better then so be it, but frankly it's just weakening another position anyway.

If we have a better option for the right, to go along with Walcott (unless we find a buyer for him, mind, but then we need two players for the right) then it should take the pressure off the left to be our entire creative area.

He's a decent player, as is Iwobi and Gordon is a decent prospect. We should be able to strengthen the right without taking away from the left and then lets see where we are with it.

I think Gordon has a great chance of really putting himself in the starting 11.

Heres hoping he hits the ground running

Than that may plain his drop off in form this season. Thought his and dignes partnership was promising season before last. Some gamesBernard was a real handful for teams
He never seems to play well away from home the only games I can remember he stood out was Leicester away and west ham away other then that its always been home games.

I think he will be sold because let's be honest unless iwobi comes out and has the season of his life we ain't getting close to half our money back. So in terms of balancing the books a bit bernard seems the logical sale here

He did an interview on the Everton YouTube channel I think talking about having panic attacks. I suffered with them for several months about 18 months ago and they are quite debilitating. I can imagine it would have had a big impact on his ability to perform.
I dont suffer with panic attacks but I do have a few different types of mental health issues so I think its a brave thing to do admit to the world. Its nothing to be ashamed of but you definitely get pushed out a bit once people know

Absolutely. It must be particularly hard in a professional sporting environment.
Watched the documentary 'The Edge' last night on iPlayer. It details the expectation and demand on the England Cricket team playing at a high level and the lack of support and understanding for, what were excellent players, experiencing challenges to their mental health and the subsequent impact on their physical performance. Very telling how the two are inextricably linked and both are needed to succeed.

Hes earning too much to be a squad player. His wages off the books will allow us to fill the holes in the first 11 and I reckon he would get a new club before some others

Same, but obviously we'll need options.

While the options on the left aren't as great as we'd all like, we do at least have players to choose from.

So I don't see the desperate need to get rid of say, Bernard, unless he's definitely surplus to requirements.

Problem with Bernard is his wages are daft for what he offers us.

120k+ a week for 2 goals a season and literally on the bench of most of the away games just isn't enough to justify that salary.

If we could get a few million we have to sell and reinvest - If funds were tight Fraser on a free would tick the boxes to replace him.

Not saying I particularly rate Fraser highly - but on less wages he would atleast offer us more in terms of physicality and can whip in a good set piece/cross.

Unless Ancelotti ends up going 433 in which we could sell Bernard and reinvest in another forward to go up top - I saw Ocampos linked which sounds pie in the sky but someone of that ilk + Richarlison either side of Kean would be good to see.

I agree in that sense which is why I said if an offer came in then fair enough, but it does leave us short of our most 'creative' (I say that loosely, but based on last season it's correct) midfielder - so we'd need another in unless we're happy to go with Iwobi and Gordon, or the plan is to push Richarlison out there and play a 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 (maybe it could be).

Issue with Fraser is it's exactly the same as Bernard. He's maybe a year younger but he'd demand big wages, though yes he has proven to be a more consistent performer in the Prem.

Allan deal 'could be done in 48 hours'

Everton are closing in on a move for Allan and a deal could be done in the next 48 hours says a report.

Sport Witness cite Gazzetta Dello Sport saying Everton’s offer is actually €25m plus €5m in bonuses and the ‘deal will be done’, because the Brazilian midfielder is no longer part of Napoli’s plans.

Meanwhile, Corriere Dello Sport state that if Everton make a ‘step forward’ and Napoli make ‘one behind’ then the bonuses involved can take care of the issue.

They add that the Blues are determined to get a deal done quickly, ‘even within 48 hours’, suggesting this is getting very close to completion.
