Yes I think having a good footballer under contract for a couple of years until he’s nearly 33 is good planning, how is it not?

We sold Gueye who is a similar type of player (better defensively but offers less in attack) and failed to replace him which ultimately cost Silva his job.
Selling the 30+ player made us worse - age isn’t everything.
Man Utd got second in the league and a Europa league final with an ancient Cavani being their best striker, few years before had similar with a Zlatan, Ronaldo wins the golden boot every season and he’s about 36, David Silva went and transformed Sociedad in La Liga, Sergio Ramos, Thiago Silva, pretty much every Italian center back all play at the highest level until they’re nearly 40.

Yes we need to plan for the future with signings like Godfrey, but signing players like Allan at 29 at the time, who may be at the back end of their careers but improve us now are also vital.

I think hes a good player, ive liked him for several years.

Having said that, were under the hammer with FFP and we'll get no fee for him when his contract expires in 2 seasons time. At the moment his value is only going down.

Surely it makes sense to offload him, bring in some funds and bring in a younger player who can hold his value and/or be a starter for many years.

I feel the same about Koulibaly, we shouldnt bring in players for chunky fees if were struggling with FFP.

The trick with Allan will be to bring in a younger player now and pre-empt him leaving. If not, we'll have a situation the same as at right back.

I've always wondered if players themselves sit down and are actually interviewed for these sorts of things or is it written into their contracts that there will be 'x' number of statements made during a season with their name attached to it.

They dont have to say anything if they dont want to.

I know I know PR soundbites blah blah but I really like his interview. Designed to make us feel excited about him, and it works :)
