2021/22 Allan

Lampard didn't need to make the change. He made a mistake.
He wasnt able to make tackles for fear of the second yellow. The whole game changed when he got booked. We lost all control because he wasn't going into challenges with the same intensity.

The sub was pretty enforced to me. 99% of managers would have done it i reckon. Unfortunately Gomes played really poorly.

He 100% had to make the change, Allan was a red card waiting to happen and wasnt playing any better them Gomes did
Allan hasn't been sent off for us, yet has often been booked. He'd only made one foul after that yellow.

You have to look at the options you have in reserve.

Playing Gomes next to VdB against a team that presses like S'ton does was a bad mistake.

A rash Allan, playing poorly, is still better than Gomes.

We still had a platform in midfield though mate didn't we. We were still able to attack. Look how much that changed in the second half, so we just had no threat and no shield in front of the defence.

Gomes did play poorly and I think none of us would have expected him to be *that* bad but I was baffled by the change. Not because Allan was playing well at all, but because you simply cannot play Gomes and VdB together in an away game against a team with such energy.

I think the ref would have sent him off 100%. He was really fussy and gave us absolutely nothing. 1 more foul, even a soft one and he was off.

The manager was between a rock and a hard place and Gomes let him down, as did plenty of others.

pretty much this, Allan might have been a red waiting to happen, but with the game finely balanced as it was at HT, a midfield two of gomes and VDB was only gonna end one way.

it was either keep allan on and hope he doesnt get another card or put another cb on and put holgate cm, under no circumstances should gomes be asked to play in a two wityh VDB.

Lampard will see performances like this and know it's not all rosey after leeds last week, i doubt gomes will play much again this season

A rash is a lot better than Gomes!!

Allan is available for the next game rather than missing the next two,

Gomes has never been able to play in a midfield two. We should have changed formation when Allan went off. A midfield five with Richarlison dropping back to left wing. Tried to get a draw.

Well this is my point mate. To me, the manager made a mistake in trusting Gomes over trusting Allan. He made two fouls in total. That's it. The one he got booked for and then the one after where he clipped a player. Other than that, he didn't make a foul (I've just checked).

So surely, get him in at HT, say look, you need to keep your head, and maybe change the shape around him? If you want Gomes on, then take Iwobi or Gordon off - because I can't stress how useless those two were and I think Gordon is pretty predictable away from home when starting games. You can't just open up the midfield.

It's a fair criticism and you know that I want Lampard to do well and think he's a good appointment. But he made poor decisions.

He didn't make another foul though, which needs to be said.

The ref was close to sending him off for the second foul. He was extremely fussy. I still think he would have sent him off for any foul.
