I think most agree the potential is there and we see if in Glimpses. Had we some decent attackers I think he'd thrive a bit more, but ultimately he's still young and needs to tidy up a bit which will come in time.
Definitely I said it a few weeks ago in a different team he’d be better but I’d still like to see more from him he should be standing out head and shoulders above our squad and he doesn’t only in size maybe but not with his on pitch displays

Just love the fact the foreign senior international 21 year old who goes to the WC isn't good enough and never will be apparently, while the same people cryarse about "academy products" that need a chance at age 23 with no senior games lol

Or actually tolerate the idea of Tom Davies.
Don’t think it’s anything to do with if he’s good enough, think it’s more the carry on of people creaming over him slapping daft valuations on him and saying his potential is massive like he’s going to be some prime viera can you honestly hand on heart say his performances have been outstanding? Cause I can’t yes he’s young but still got so much to learn and add to his game.

You don't have to produce consistent brilliance for people to be able to spot potential though do you? That's what potential is effectively, if you're already great then potential doesn't really come into it. If I think of someone like Stones here, it was always clear that he had huge potential and could be a massive star, despite the fact he rarely gave dominant performances and made semi regular massive errors. For me, Onana's potential is massive. Whether he fulfils it is a different question, and he certainly isn't at megastar level at the moment, but I think it's easy to see why people are excited about him personally.

I get that and we haven’t had a lot to get excited by but there’s being excited which can then cross the line to sounding like a kopite where every player they sign is the best in the world within the blink of an eye, also just enjoy he’s a £30 off million pound player without guessing his potential or future price that then adds less expectations on him tbh if we got offered £70m I’d take it all day with the position we find ourselves in we’re a long way off building a squad of Onanas and need to ride the next couple of seasons out and remaining in the league whilst moving up the table is the most important thing. I fear a points deduction could be the final nail in the coffin for us

As soon as Brighton rejected £70mil for Caicedo (and placed an £80mil price tag on him) and Chelsea paid £105mil+ for Fernandez it was pretty clear that Onana (who statistically is at the top end of a number of charts) would see a valuation increase.

He's the starting centre midfielder for Belgium, took the armband towards the end of the last game and was in their top 3 players in the previous two games (3-0 Sweden + 3-2 Germany).

Were talking about a physical monster, intelligent, high potential and only 21 years old starting for one of the worlds best international teams.

Hes moved clubs in each of the last 3 summers. Lille have a 20% sell on fee so for £70mil we would receive £62.6mil.

Im not sure why youre finding it hard to see his potential -- plenty of opposition fans and the media can see it....let alone our own fans!

Im also not sure why youre struggling with the valuation. The media are pushing strong interest from Chelsea and Arsenal...why wouldnt the fee be high?

Has done ok last few games i still feel he has more to come, maybe with a different cm instead of dacoure means he can push forward more is a big talent

All the bedwetters here slaughtering Onana would say exactly the same thing about Paul Bracewell.
I watched Bracewell control many, many games and still went unnoticed, which is exactly the player we need right now.
Stop doing comparisons, he is who he is.

Outstanding compared to the lack of quality around him - most of the time, yes. Which doesn't take a lot - he just doesn't lose or misplace the ball at every opportunity, because that's the standard we're at.

In a potentially better team that tries to play football, like the national team for example, he's an extremely solid player who barely puts a foot wrong as well. That's a valuable asset and people cream over players that do this, worldwide.

No we need him to dribble through players as if they're standing still and slot in the top corner.
