2022/23 Amadou Onana

I keep saying it… this guy should be dominating the central midfield. His athleticism and size means he should be a Viera type.

However I see a player who’s in cruise mode. Doing as little as possible whilst holding his position. He’s not giving 💯 in my opinion there’s definitely a few more gears in him,

Hes a defensive midfielder. He should be played as a midfield anchor.

50 mill in the summer would be very good business if we stay or go.

That would push me pretty close to not watching until the board and manager are punted.

You dont sell Onana for £50mil.

Why not? Honestly I’ve seen nothing this season to suggest his price tag has doubled or very close to it, it’s just mind boggling if anyone thinks it has and are willing to pay 60 plus million. I’ve not once watched him and thought wow he’s good barely stood out in a really poor team this season to me he’s run of the mill player who will no doubt improve.

Everyone has opinions.

Mine are well documented on the forum.

He and Branthwaite have been slated by many on the forum.

Yet those are the two players I'd want us to fight tooth and nail to keep.

Both I can see in title winning teams in a few years.

They arent the finished article but if were talking about building a team that can fight towards the top end of the table then theyre perfect profiles to develop.

GK--CB--DM--CM--CF

Depending on how we play, we'd have a 20 and 21 year old ticking off 2 of 5 positions down the spine of the team.

If we could just add a CM/ACM and a CF with similar profiles to the 2 players mentioned then we'd finally see some foundations being built.

Onanas everton career has been like this for me .....

First game gave away a goal against villa and then set one up, so the bad and the good cancelled themselves out.

Then the next few games I remember watching him and messaging a friend saying this guy can't string a pass together and is not worth the money.

However then he went on a bit of a run for a month or so where I messaged that same friend and said you know what this Onana has actually got something about him and could be a good player for us.

However after that he just seemed to fade away and since then he has been a player who I think the fairest word to describe is underwhelming. Particularly under dyche. Its like there's no point to having a player in the team with his attributes as he doesn't use them. He just seems to drift through games while offering very little and it's a real shame because he did have that period where he looked like he could dominate a game.

Like the Arsenal home game and Southampton at home first half. Where's that Onana gone?

Regardless if they do continue to improve we won’t keep them anyway we’re in a complete mess and I’d be surprised if branthwaite plays for us again I reckon he will be off in the summer if he stays and we go down him and Tarkowski could be a great partnership onana might stay another year to develop but if he starts showing to be the player some think he is he will also be gone. No chance were building a team around so called top talents we aren’t in a position to.

Depends on the offers and the manager, DOF and the board/owner and of course the players.

Stay up and there could be some room to move a little more freely with many out of contract and some major sales having already gone through.

We need those 2 players and to improve our position to attract investment and sponsors in the stadium.

Stay up or not, IMO there's is zero chance any player with any talent sticks around in the Summer.

Pickford will probably stay cos we are paying him 150k a week.

I can’t see us staying up tonight’s a massive game towards that let’s see what happens. And we’re a long way off attracting top players or even building a decent squad unless we scout much better, the last 2 seasons has really damaged us as a so called big club I don’t believe we have been a big club for years. Can’t even appoint decent managers look at Emery at villa wasn’t long they was close to us admittedly they have some decent players in their squad ours is really poor and shows why we’re in this position.

I don’t even think he will stay looked annoyed playing to dyche tactics the other week and think he could get similar wages elsewhere, good keeper and should and probably will be playing with better players away from us.

He will go if we go down but tbh at the moment I don't see where he would actually go. The clubs who are going to want keepers in the summer are all being linked with better keepers than him and I don't see him going abroad.

Because of the way FFP works we would gain little from selling him in the summer. If we stay up we would need to hang on to him for at least a year in which time he might move up a level in his development so we can command a bigger fee and his value on the books would have dropped. I seemed to recall there is also a sell on clause to pay. If we go down we would need to sell just to stay a float

I think you need to go back and watch some of his performances again this season and also remember his age and experience.

He will be a top player and is already one of our best (although a low bar).
