This is a well worn transfer strategy by us. Generally starts with dropping little nuggets in a press saying a player wants out, is home sick or wants to play at a bigger club. Fans turn against them, hail selling our best players as brilliant deal - as they dont want to be here. Club pockets the money, doesn't reinvest, we get worse. Then start again.

Just say no.
It’s either released on our end or another club’s end. We would do the things that you mentioned above. Another club would release this to unsettle the player and put ideas in their head and yes- turn the fans against the player. Then the fans start harassing the player and the player begs to leave for a lower price yada yada.

God no. Awful footballer, looked hopelessly out of place in the England match the other night. Wouldn't take him on a free.
England international, box-to-box midfielder and Palace's player of the season by some distance under Viera.

We couldn't hope to get him at any price, let alone for free.

I don't think he's awful and would be a good buy at a decent price.

But Keane was once a England international, means nothing

We are nowhere near the level we were when we bought Keane - that's our reality now. And that's why Gallagher is coming nowhere near us, unfortunately.

Look at it another way - Declan Rice will go for £100m. Fulham will be looking for well over £50m for Joao Paulinha if he moves this summer.

The Rodri fee was a few years ago and now looks like a bargain.

The comparison seems out-of-date now.

I don't know exactly what sort of figure I'd be putting on Onana because you're paying for potential, but he does look like he has an awful lot going for him if he can harness it all. If we paid £26m and owe 20% of the profit to Lille, a fee of £50m gives you a profit of just over £19m. All depends what sort of premium you'd be happy with after only having him 12 months. Personally if we could double our money on him (which would mean selling him for about £60m after allowing for the 20% sell on clause), I think that's in the region of what I'd want based on him having 4 years left on his deal, his age, the obvious potential there and the Declan Rice valuation.
At the moment Rice is miles better than Onana so I don't see how

You can throw Rice's value in with regards to Onanas valuation that's just bizarre.

Well, you can in so much as some fees dictate the market. If Rice is worth £100m (and don't get me wrong, he's a really, really good player), it sets the precedent for that position. OK, there's the English premium in there, but I'd be comfortable defending a £55-60m valuation for Onana just in that context

That's your opinion. I see a player who did little to justify the hype. Sick of everyone on here buying into the potential argument. Arsenal apart where did he show signs for us of being a potential star? Caicedo is 21 and looked far far better for the vast majority of the season and he's talked about as a 60mil player so to expect this for Onana for me is far fetched.

Swap deal, Onana for Gallagher anyone?

Be very tricky convincing Gallagher to come mind. And would rather get rid of deadwood. But if he wants to go...
No. Gallagher is an advanced Phil Neville, turbo-charged bin juice. He shouldn’t be getting anywhere near that Chelsea team (or within a mile of an England squad!) and only did because he had posters of Lampard on his bedroom wall

He was also our man of the match when he came on for his cameo at Goodison, the whole game swung in our favour after he gave a dreadful free kick away for our first. He just charges about with absolutely no discipline or tactical nous and looks as technically gifted as Doucoure

If that’s the case he could easily put it to bed by posting something in social media….they live there these days. If he posts nothing, I would think there may be some legs in it.

Did you watch him play for England the other night? He was abysmal, looked completely out of his depth. He's barely started a game all season for the worst Chelsea team in years. Crap player.
