2023/24 Amadou Onana

Apart from Zat who thinks that Onana is a combo of Makele , Kante , Rodri and Viera and values him at North of £80 million what do we realistically think we will get for him ?

For me I think the maximum fee is about £50 million and I reckon the Arse are the most likely suitors. I think he is a better fit for their midfield than Partey.
£40m plus Smith Rowe

I think both him and Branthwaite are out the door - but also, in selling him, I suspect we'll actually miss out on him stepping up finally.
He's 22, two seasons in the league - given the right playing environment I imagine next season could be where he really steps up.
For him it would almost definitely be better to be elsewhere in a team that wants to play through midfield. But I'm pretty sure wherever he ends up he'll be a big success, and we'll feel short changed in time only having sold him for 40m tops.

He went down holding his face at 1 point on Saturday.

The amount of abuse he received from the match going fans was very audible.

I dont think he will be missed, as ive said, hes a very talented boy, I think at some point him and the manager fell out and he knew he was moving on so he stopped caring.

No problem, good luck with whatever comes next Onana lad, may your career be healthy and successful.

I'm interested to see what happens as I have heard stuff down here that Arteta is not that keen on him.

Ive said a few times he takes their midfield up a level if he replaced Partey.

Looking at the numbers Arteta spends on players...and with Lavia going for £58mil (worse player) we certainly shouldnt accept anything less than doubling our money.

It doesn't matter what you think of him Zat, it matters what Arteta thinks, and the word is that Arsenals recruitment team like Onana but Mikel is less keen. Be interesting to see if there is any interaction between the two at the weekend.

He’s a weird one. I’ve seen enough Everton central midfielders strolling around doing nothing to know that he’s not one of those. He’s worked hard, played pretty well, kept his head down, and had some game where he’s played very well. Normally though when a player goes for big money you’d be upset to see him go but tbh if I see the team sheet on a Saturday and he or or isn’t starting I don’t really care and if he’s replaceable with Garner and Gueye then it means he’s probably not delivering 60 or 70 mill of value to us on the field. If he can deliver that to the accounts instead and we can get in another player who can contribute to that midfield group then it might work well.

I think the team would miss Pickford or Branthwaite far more than Onana.

Agree with all that, but I'd also add that a big part of the reason for there being no connection between fans and player is we all know (including him, probably) that we bought him to flip him within a couple of years. He's just been passing through, it's been very transactional, so why bother getting attached.

His inconsistency has only emphasised the apathy everyone feels about it.

I just don't know what he's meant to be. He's not great the defensive part of the game and is hopeless at attacking. Yes, he works hard and is ok at passing.

Most interesting would be to see who would on Artetas list.

He's got some phenomenal numbers, and his physical gifts are apparent.

What I can't shake, though, is after months of winless football (yes, we beat Burnley 1-0 bfd), all the points deduction blather, the 777 stuff, even the Dyche head-slap of Patterson -there was a squad in a sour, curdled mood in the aftermath of our debacle away to Chelsea; Dyche and the squad evidently had a very frank and open airing of the grievances at Finch Farm; "big changes" were promised; the squad has been in top form ever since, in results, performances, and spirit - and the biggest visible change on the pitch is that Onana was benched.

I could go on, but it does seem to be that simple for me - the collective suddenly looked much keener and sharper with him not in it.

Which is pretty damning.
