Let me add to this. I've followed Everton since 1969, that was the year I was born so I was a little too young to appreciate the Kendall, Ball and Harvey's of this world. But I was certainly able to fully appreciate and rejoice with the 1980's sides, which were sublimely fantastic. Kanchelskis was superb, as was Peter Beardsley (sadly, that's it as far as world beating talent at Everton since 1987 goes).
We have been crying out for a midfielder of Gomes' talent for 30 odd years. He's THAT good. I'm excited as hell he is at Everton, It fills me with bloody joy just saying or hearing others mention his name, and I get tingles of anticipation when I'm about to watch him play.
Best footballer Everton have ever had? Tough call this early in his EFC career, coupled with our heroes of the past. BUT, If he stays permanently (and Everton should categorically go all out, no matter the cost, to pull that off) and he continues the way he is going, then yes he will go down as one of the greatest footballers ever to wear the EFC shirt. I for one, can not wait to see him grace the Bramley Moore turf,
