2018/19 Andre Gomes

Don't see how he can be tired for last half a dozen games. Think he's just been poor along with most others to be fair. He's a confidence player obviously so when we play well he does but can see why he never made it at Barca with the high pressure he would have

Still think he's boss like but I think the tired shouts are a bit of an excuse

Since that loss in the 'derby' that he bossed, he's gone from the being the player whose demeanour screamed, 'gimme the ball, I'll show you what I can do...'
to a player asking 'is this how you get away with it Morgan?'

The sheer nature of that goal has - in my opinion - had such a demoralising effect on the side in general and perhaps Andre more.
He's classy, but needs similar quality around him and we don't have it.

This. In the case of Gomes and potentially Richardson worry me. If the current slump persists, expect to see unsettling links with both players to the top Spanish CL regulars as well as some of the sky 6 here for summer moves. We need to arrest the slide, quickly, and then institute a further cull to replace Walcott, DCL, Tosun, Keane and Davies (to only pick on those who featured today, there are more) with players of a quality matching Gomes/Rich next summer. It will require much investment but add Schneiderlin, Coleman and Niasse to the list and there is scope to raise considerable funds through sales too. Much to do and will continue to be needed in Summer 2020 window too.

I think he is being given way too much slack.

Could these mental and physical frailties he has been showing recently be why he was given so much stick at Barcelona?

Or...

He's just coming back from injury and hit the ground running. He's not played a lot of football in the last two years and is doing his first run of festive fixtures. He's then picked up a knock v Spurs and not been himself since. Needs a rest.

Ross Barkley has similar levels of quality to Gomes ... slightly different attribute wise and we can debate who's better etc- but non the less my concern for both players is that because of their mentality they will never hit the heights their talents deserves.

Gomes has given us glimpses of pure ability... have we seen him really impact a game at a key part of the pitch with a decisive action..... or are we seeing a lovely elegant player look nice and tidy when deep and away from the nitty gritty parts of the game?

Hmmm.... dunno. Something not quite right.

I was all for breaking the bank... tiredness does not explain some of the things he's been doing.... Awful passes etc.

Half a dozen games is a big exaggeration, he struggled for fitness near the beginning of the season and this type of fixture list has killed him off again, he should have been rested. Look at the amount of hours rest we had in comparison to other clubs, believe we had a third of what the RS had

Barcelona don’t bin off class players unless there is a problem. The guy is mentally weak and is the last person we need in a stressful struggling team, that in the managers words is nervous ATM

It's not though is it he hasn't been boss once since the derby infect he hasn't particular been good once since the derby

I get he's coming back from an injury and that but that's an easy cop out

He's been sloppy
