Deffo played deeper today.
Looked like he may have been told to play it more simple as well.
Seemed to go for the short simple pass more often than not.
Not an eye catching performance by any means, but looked much more confident than recent performances.
I am still carried away with him. Excellent player adapting to PL football quite well and still looking our best player. It's the turds around him not on the same level and wavelength.

Its a yes from me but his mentality/confidence is questionable and its a worry when we really need to start signing mentally strong players.

But what does/has he given the football team? He has 'one' assist which was giving the ball to richarlison before he hit that pot shot against millwall at the weekend, other than that he doesnt play forward. Can take a pass in but usually returns it straight back without taking authority.
Gets the team on the front foot mostly. Is the most accurate passer (not just sideways). He doesn't have to assist just get the team on the front foot and not waste passes. He doesn't panic and gets us moving (usually breaks downs with the receiver). We need more players of his ilk and more players on his wavelength. Static players will not justify what Gomes is good at. No doubt he is an excellent player.

First few games i thought the same, but as games have came and gone he has influenced less and less.. same as jorginho when he arrived at chelsea and everyone raved about his passing stats but his actual productivity to the team is near non existent. We dont need a slow but neat midfielder playing triangles in his own half if we are trying to implement a fast attacking style of football

Not the silky skills from a few weeks ago but a much more mature performance notably playing deeper.

What bothers me about Gana going is in a 4-3-3 I think Gomes could be great in that role that Davies (or Gylfi) occupied today, with Gana able to sweep up behind.
If we do get another midfielder in, has to be a sitter, to mean we can play Gomes further forward and get the best out of him that way.
He isn't a defensive mid against quality opposition, that's for sure.
I do think he did well tonight, though.
