I do think football is very lenient on fouls were players have no real intention of doing something legal. But no obviously they shouldn't all be reds. However they should be super automatic yellows and that definitely isn't how it is handled right now.

You see im the other way, I think some yellow cards are needlessly given.

We will see how the FA judge this, if you look at the tackle in insolation its 1 that is made 5 or 6 times a week in every single game.

This 1 of course is not like the others.

Some fouls lead to broken limbs, others don’t. The fact that it was clearly a hot-headed reacted in retaliation to something which occurred a few minutes previously tells you that he meant to take him down, and taking him down led to a broken ankle.

Surely weve all played the game and weve all had "That fella is getting it next chance I get it", I mean ive fouled loads of people, not once have I intended any damage other than a bruised shin or thigh.

I think Andre's injury is a good indication of why those 5 or 6 tackles should be cut out if possible. The game has risks when played fairly so the additional risk of tackles aimed at players should be squashed as much as possible.

People talk about the loss of physicality but there can be legal physicality still without these kinds of tackles that aren't even attempts at legal play. And while I enjoy the occasional moment of power I don't really watch football to see people get physcially beaten, and I doubt anyone plays for that purpose either.

I dont think it was any more than a yellow,it was late, from behind and studs up,I have seen worse go unpunished,I have seen less get yellow carded, think a lot of what is leading the narrative is the injury and the making out that Son is suffering more than anybody

I don’t like at all what I’ve been reading on various media, firstly I’m really pleased that Gomes surgery went well hopefully we can see him in a few games before the season finishes. The whole incident was really horrible, but people saying it was a horrific challenge I don’t agree, it wasn’t a very clever one, but 100s of them happen over the season, without any one getting injured or seriously injured, Gomes was extremely unlucky.
As for the red card, well imo it wasn’t but ref/var said it was, so that should be the end of the matter and son should serve his ban. I hear spurs want to appeal it, well firstly imo they are being a bit disrespectful to Gomes by doing so, even if they think he shouldn’t be banned they should just take it on the chin, because of the serious of the injury. But secondly VAR I believe gave the red card after checking the incident how can that even be appealed?.

The foul didnt cause the break, it was just a factor.

it was just an unfortunate series of events , gomes rode the foul but his foot planted at an odd angle , he could go through that incident 100 times and it only ever happen once , was it cuased by Son, no .. but he was involved with creating the incident , that was just unfortunate.

not a red in any circumstance

it is what it is ..

why do we feel we HAVE to attach balme to someone when it was purely accidental??

Is it any better than a non-deliberate foul in which the player’s foot accidentally makes contact to cause the break? This was a deliberate foul made from behind which put a player who was running at pace in danger.

of course it was caused by Son. It wasn’t accidental at all. He meant to slide into him from behind while Gomes was running at pace. At the point Son decides to do that (as retribution), he has lost control of what happens to Gomes as a result. He was reckless, out of control, and because of the outcome it is a red card.

Many times tackles are made to break up play, it’s happened since football begun It’s always been classes as taking one for the team . I remember Solskjaer chopping some one down years ago when they were to be one on one with the goal keeper, he was never going to win the ball and got sent off for a professional foul, he took one for the team and it could just have easily had a serious injury out come, but it didn’t. Say we are 1 up v Liverpool in the FA cup final Salah is running through one on one, would you want say Keane to trip him to take one for the team? I would. I know Sons tackle was in a different part of the pitch, but I believe he made it to break up play, like 100s of other players do through out the season. It was just very unfortunate Gomes landed so awkward after the challenges.

The way I see it is, Son was fuming he got elbowed (accidentally) he makes a revenge tackle that doesn't want to cause harm but when someone catches you and you're fuming about it so you just foul him for the sake of it to release some anger he tackles Gomes and then the tackle causes his foot to somehow get stuck in the grass or something and then Aurier I assume powering through on momentum comes in on him, It's a combination of things that caused it. I don't hate Son but he knew what he was doing in tackling him obviously not hoping he breaks his leg like but the intent is obvious.

Absolutely nothing to do with what had happened moments previously?

you've just described every single tackle made in football ..

they should all get red cards ?
