...absolutely. No attempt to play the ball, it was a tackle of retribution. I’m sure Son meant no harm, but the consequences of the tackle have to be taken into consideration when determining the punishment. It was a deliberate foul and it has to be red because of the outcome.

if a driver drives without due care and attention he gets points, but if the outcome is a 3rd Party injury, then the punishment is more significant.

You know better than any of us when a player wants to get the man and not the ball. You called it straight away.

The precedent is that you lunge at someone's ankle with no regard for the ball, but you'll only be cautioned. There's nothing wrong with going to ground firmly to win the ball. But if you're after the man they you need to be sent from the field because it can have serious unintended consequences.

At the time I thought a booking, when the red was produced I thought it must be a second booking, whether the ref or VAR have changed their decision, then that shows either one or both arent fit for purpose

For those who think it's just a freak injury I'd point to what happened to Shawcross a few years back as a freak injury and although this is similar in that landing wrong on his leg caused it for Gomes, the reason he landed wrong is because of what Son did.

Yeah, but rules are rules. It’s a contact sport and sometimes accidents will happen. Don’t think he deserves getting dragged over hot coals for it.
Yeah rules are rules ie you can't tackle from behind /the side with no intention of playing the ball thus endangering a fellow professional. No amount of crocodile tears can absolve a player of recklessly potentially ruining a players career.

What happens if you push a player and he falls over. Its a standard yellow card BUT

Are most of you seriously arguing that the ref should wait a minute or 2. If the player gets up uninjured it stays a yellow - play on.

If he stays on the deck and says hes done his leg and cant carry on its RED?

A similar tackle without the horrific injury, Red card it was appealed but it was not overturned. The panel deciding then to keep the red for a wreckless lunge in from behind, now there has been a horrible injury and the panel buckled and overturned it in my opinion because of the media.

No, we're saying if you dive behind a player to take him out and then it results in a broken ankle then yes it's a red card, think before you speak and respect the game.

Pushes don't usually cause serious injuries.

Lunges regularly do. Especially when they target an ankle.

Yet another in your long list of tedious and inane wind up posts.

He didn't push a player though did he.
