My 15 year old son suffered the same fracture but thankfully without the dislocation. Granted he had nowhere near the support of a pro Prem player, but it was 7 months until he played a match again. Regaining full mobility of the ankle a bigger challenge than healing bones. In reality, likely to be a year until you see Gomes in a competitive first class fixture again. Get well soon Andre.

His challenge doesnt even do anything, just knocks him off balance like he obviously intended.

Again, this happens 3-4 times in every game every week. If Aurier doesnt come in there he falls over and gets a foul

Doesn't matter. The intentional foul led to a serious injury = red. If it didn't lead to a serious injury then = yellow. It does happen every week and 99 times out of 100 it doesn't lead to injury so fair enough with a yellow. If he didn't make the illegal tackle then Gomes would be OK. The tackle resulted in a bad injury so a red was more than justified. It wasn't malicious but it was intentional (reckless) and the result of that tackle has resulted in a serious injury.

Gutted for the lad. It seems everytime we suffer a long term injury it's a player who is playing well. He's been excellent of late and looked like getting better. I just hope when Gomes comes back he doesn't get hammered on social media by Blues for 'not being the same player' like has happened to some of our players whose suffered bad injuries.

So in recent times McCarthy, Coleman and now Gomes have received bad injuries as a result of opposing players. Can't recall the last time one of our players have put other teams players out long term.

While not the result of a tackle, there was Yannick Bolasie too who suffered a serious injury on the field which put him out for virtually a year. I often think back too to Nolan’s tackle on Anichebe which almost ruined the lads’ career a few years’ back. We’ve now had four first-team players in the past four years who have had an injury which has put them out for a year (or close enough to). Utterly cursed, this club.

100% right this.
If you smack someone outside a pub it's assault.
If he goes down, smacks his head on concrete and dies, it's manslaughter.

The point is..
actions have consequences

Terrible injury, if he was a player whose game relied on pace or tough tackling, I don’t think he would ever be the same player, but, with the type of role Andre plays, he may well make a full recovery. It will be the best part of a year before we see him back though.
As for Son, I don’t believe that he intended to cause that level of an injury, but, his “challenge” was, at best, reckless so let’s not make him out to be the victim here. Bottom line, if he hadn’t made that challenge, Andre Gomes would not be lying in a hospital bed at the moment.
Agree with that. A player like Coleman whose game involves a lot of galloping up and down the flank his injury clearly had an effect, but Andre being a composed passer who doesn’t rely on pace I think he will be back to his best.

We also lost Bryan Oviedo to a bad break

The trouble now is very few, if any, return to the standard they were.

I hope he's comfortable and pain free, sure he will be by now, all the best Lad
