2019/20 Andre Gomes

I posted similar in the match thread mate. I'll accept he didn't intend to injure as he did, but the challenge was malicious and pre meditated.

Son had a nibble at Iwobi just before he passed to Gomes, and he was out to catch someone. He obviously never meant to injure him, but his foul unbalanced Gomes and then Aurier done the damage by flying in on his standing foot.

Two cowardly challenges.

May be in the minority and I’m not a controversial poster but I do think Son went to do him, not to the extent but afterwards he knew he’d then gone over the top. You could see the challenge coming a mile off and he had no way of getting the ball so I don’t buy this sympathy lark

Absolutely agree with you mate. Taking it a step further, I don't agree with Coleman going into the Spurs dressing room post-match to console Son. I'm getting a bit sick of this Everton-are-the-nice-guys carry on. There of course wasn't the intention to do the damage that he had done - but I think it's clear from the tussle that Gomes and Son had a few minutes earlier that Son was seeking a bit of his own back, and was keen to leave a mark on Gomes at the very least.

With Aurier covering Gomes' run, there was no need to dive into him the way he did. Son's tears simply illustrate the guilt he felt and the realization he was at fault. As others have said, consequences have actions. Oh, and the red card was about right, too.

Just for anyone saying this is red card it’s absolutely not!! If that’s a red card then each game would finish 8 v 8
Don’t worry you don’t see his leg in this vid

Son 100% deserved the red card. I have no doubt that he did not mean to cause such an injury to Gomes but the very nature of the injury changes the challenge from “professional foul” to “endangering an opponent”
Since when has that been the rule, if someone accidentally put an arm across an opponent does that mean if there's no blood it's yellow and red if there is blood.

Players sometimes get knocked out when going for the same ball does that mean the other guy should be sent off because he wasn't knocked out.

It's a tackle from behind...

The rules seem to keep changing though, I think intent has been took out of it and the end result is part of it instead now.

Who knows though, either way its a bit weird for anyone to say its not a red, I mean really, who cares?

I think its been from this season.

That's the problem though, the rules are incredibly vague and changes to them are not properly notified.

Exactly, it doesn't matter does it? Gomes' ankle is still mangled, Son still (rightly or wrongly) has a 3 game ban and will feel terrible and there's nothing wrong with Coleman going to have a quiet word with him. Basic humanity.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Coleman going in to see Son. Its away from the pitch so the nice guy thing doesn't really effect anything. I want my club to be nice away from the pitch.

Its not a red if seen in isolation but when you look at what happened as an entirety, Sons tackle caused the broken leg. Its from behind, Gomes cant react to it hence why hes off balance before being clobbered again by Aurier. You cant go about on a football pitch clipping people from behind and expect to get away with it. At some point an injury will happen. It was a snide foul, deliberate and happened because of the minute or twos play before the tackle. Doesnt matter whether he meant to break his leg or not, fact is his tackle did. Had he not been such a [Poor language removed] and had a go from behind, no broken leg.

Circumstance is circumstance, Gomes is unlucky, 99/100 he gets up from that and a yellow card is enough. Dont give a turd about Son and how upset he is, id be raging at him if that happened to me or any of my teammates. He should be getting shown up for being the little shithows he is instead of all this "hes not the type of player rubbish". You get in a fight, punch someone and they bang their head on the floor and dies, doesnt matter whether you meant to kill them or not.
