It's a tackle from behind...

The rules seem to keep changing though, I think intent has been took out of it and the end result is part of it instead now.

Who knows though, either way its a bit weird for anyone to say its not a red, I mean really, who cares?

Yeah exactly. He’s only missing for three games, Gomes is out for God knows how long.

All this "poor Son" nonsense is laughable.

He purposefully went lunging into a challenge which could only result in him getting the man. It wasn't the worst tackle I've ever seen by any means. But when you deliberately go after the man and not the ball, you don't deserve any sympathy. There are plenty of other ways to do a cynical foul without a wild lunge. He deserves his ban 100% and there are some clueless shouts going around.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Coleman going in to see Son. Its away from the pitch so the nice guy thing doesn't really effect anything. I want my club to be nice away from the pitch.

Yeah me saying I don't agree is going a bit far, Seamus is a top lad who always comes across as being the sort of person who would always put others first. I guess my sentiment is that this all seems to help build unwarranted sympathy for Son, and helps portray him as the victim, when the real victim is probably undergoing surgery as I type this.

As as all Coleman had to go on in making his decision on going and talking to the lad was his view of the incident from right in front of him, I'm inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt in terms of the narrative around Son.

Every player on that pitch will have put in a clumsy, stupid tackle designed purely to kick somebody up in the air at some point. Son just got dreadfully unlucky with his. He deserved his red (in part because he also tried to kick Iwobi and should have already had a yellow for hurling himself to the turf in pursuit of a penalty), I hope he goes to see Gomes in the hospital and I'm proud that our captain is the sort who can (as I heard) yell at the officials to get things moving with a stretcher and still have the presence of mind to check on a young lad who's bad tackle went horribly wrong.

I'm perfectly happy to accept he deserves his 3 games and he still didn't intend to injure anybody.

That's the thing as well, watch the replay and his tackle is about 3 yards away from ever getting the ball. It's a proper sly arse tackle at full speed resulting in an out of control tackle where anything can happen

Its not a red if seen in isolation but when you look at what happened as an entirety, Sons tackle caused the broken leg. Its from behind, Gomes cant react to it hence why hes off balance before being clobbered again by Aurier. You cant go about on a football pitch clipping people from behind and expect to get away with it. At some point an injury will happen. It was a snide foul, deliberate and happened because of the minute or twos play before the tackle. Doesnt matter whether he meant to break his leg or not, fact is his tackle did. Had he not been such a [Poor language removed] and had a go from behind, no broken leg.

Circumstance is circumstance, Gomes is unlucky, 99/100 he gets up from that and a yellow card is enough. Dont give a turd about Son and how upset he is, id be raging at him if that happened to me or any of my teammates. He should be getting shown up for being the little shithows he is instead of all this "hes not the type of player rubbish". You get in a fight, punch someone and they bang their head on the floor and dies, doesnt matter whether you meant to kill them or not.
I don’t have any sympathy for Son, the point I’m trying to make is if that tackle is deemed a red card, forget about the injury then the game is done!! Any shoulder barge, coming together 50/50 tackle can result in serious injury.

Are you actually comparing a lunge at an opponents ankle to a shoulder barge.

If he wanted to make a cynical foul and take a yellow, he could have pulled his shirt, pushed him over, or clipped him.

But no.

He chose to lunge in wildly on his ankle. He made a decision to go after the man so I have zero sympathy. It's a certain red card. The ball is about 3 yards away!!!

So yes a shoulder barge or nudge could result in a serious injury. Some things are just complete freak events. This was very unfortunate for all parties. But it's absolutely not the same as a shoulder barge. It was reckless and snide with no regard for an opponent. Red card. 3 games ban. Move on....

May be in the minority and I’m not a controversial poster but I do think Son went to do him, not to the extent but afterwards he knew he’d then gone over the top. You could see the challenge coming a mile off and he had no way of getting the ball so I don’t buy this sympathy lark

im with you here mate 100%, nasty forwards tackle from behind and aurier from the front, there is definite fault on spurs door here and i hope they know it, even with no injury id have wanted a booking each at least for both of them.....totally over the top, no accident at all

this mate 100%

Son didn't go into hurt him. Neither did Aurier.

Doesn't mean either player were in the right. Son's in particular was a bad tackle. You can make a bad tackle without the intent to hurt someone. I hate the extremity.

It's gutting. It's horrid. Gomes will be lucky to be back within a year.

It's all on the ref. Completely losing control of the game. Not giving simple decisions and VAR making it even more of a mess.

this pretty much

also in my opinion, the reason son was crying like he was for me is because he knew it was his fault, he's got a little cob on when gomes slapped him and lunged in. again doesn't matter that he didn't mean to cause that injury there was intention to foul gomes because of what gomes had just done

sick of hearing about how son has been hard done by with the card, who's arsed abar him missing 3 games when gomes is gonna miss a year
