Excellent news , Medicine and science have progressed so much in recent years , back then a person with such an injury would have been confined to crutches for the rest if his life .

Don't really buy into the sympathy for Son. If you lunge in from behind nowhere near getting the ball and indeed it's impossible to get the ball then he deserves everything he is feeling today as I bet it is 10x less than what Andre is feeling.

If Gomes had just gone down and wasn't injured fair enough, yellow card, but if a player is injured and this doesn't have to be severely like in this case, then why not a red for such a irresponsible and needless challenge?

Everyone might be a bit more responsible that way, you can still 'take one for the team' by holding or pulling back but the same applies, injure someone and you go off. Just less chance than with a wild lunge at speed.

Everyone makes mistakes, that's why pencils have erasers.

What's wrong with a sending off and a 3 match ban? Not saying we all hunt Son down and twist his leg foot off in retribution. He made the lunge, whether he meant to seriously injur Gomes or not (which I have no doubt he didn't), end of the day, can't do the time, don't do the crime.
