Anyone got a clue about this stuff?

No ligament damage? If so that's a minor miracle.

Also having dislocated it, is it likely to be dislocated easier and often?

Not a clue me, but the statement from the club was remarkably upbeat. Normally its "op has gone well" but they made a point of saying it was actually pretty ace.

If its "only" a dislocation, and minimal ligament damage, then lets see.

Yeah it was pretty positive. Surely a right off this season but a fully fit Gomes for next.

Got to hope Gbamin is decent when he gets fit really.

No, shouldn't be more likely to be dislocated again. Obviously without seeing any sort of medical report I would take an educated guess it would be held with screws and plates.
Plates are usually left in as a general rule rather than pins which are usually removed. But it all depends on the individual's injury so its all guesswork without more information.
I've known cases where screws interfere with joints and end up having to be removed. There's no report on any substantial ligament damage which is a good thing obviously but will need to be assessed more fully as soon as it is possible to get a clearer picture.

So I doubt he is more likely to suffer a dislocation because of it, I wouldn't like to guess any more than that though without more information.

I'm in medical devices, and my last job was with a company in the foot and ankle sector of orthopaedics, advising surgeons on product usage etc.

It's pretty much impossible to get either a dislocation or dislocation/fracture without damaging the ligaments.

Only real exception (at least to the first of those) is in people with connective tissue disorders (such as Ehlers Danlos, among others) - which Gomes won't have.

The sheer distance the ankle has to move to dislocate and then fracture (usually the tibia that goes) means that you'd have some level of tearing in the ligaments - more often than not a full rupture.

Not sure where the 3-4 month shouts are coming from but IF accurate (and I'd be skeptical at this point) he's been ASTONISHINGLY lucky.
