I remember a game he played in pre-injury and pre-Covid against Aston Villa. It was early in the season and we had a chance to go top of the table and he was awful.

It was the classic “won a competition” type performance and I’ve seen nothing since to suggest he is capable of any type of consistency.

At the ground yesterday, everyone was incredulous that he was coming on as a first sub which I think gives a good indication of where he ranks in importance in the minds of Evertonians.

He played well in his little cameo but I’ve seen it all before and he should be shown the door when his contract is up.

I'll reserve judgment until the end of the season.

Don’t think there will be anyone calling for a renewal at anything like his current wages even if he strings together a run of good games.

But we need him right now & if he plays well & earns a Saudi retirement deal then all parties win.

Do you remember every game Doucoure played under Benitez and Lampard?

But yet under Dyche many say he’s our most influential player in terms of the outcomes of our matches…

I know Gomes has played less than one full game under Dyche, but he was pretty damn good - I’ll be interested to see how he plays in the next few games, but he’s done enough to warrant a start in that 10 role to find out IMO, especially if Doucoure is still out.

Well if he can put in a shift like this week most weeks then I take every slight I made back. Cant remember him playing better. Maybe 'Dyche fit' makes the difference.
That's the thing. He can't.

People are engaging in wishful thinking. We've had five years of this fella. He is what he is. He was always capable of a sporadic performance. That's the issue, though: they are always sporadic.

Agreed. As much as I'd like to see a performance from Gomes like the other day, it's just not practical given his history. He is way too inconsistent. Hopefully he can be an option off the bench though if needed for the remainder of the season.
