A playmaker is a creator rather than a scorer. Payet for example had an (approx) 1 in 7 scoring ratio prior to his West Ham move but was the top of the assist charts.

The top assist-providers last season were:

Fabregas 18 (3 goals)
Cazorla 11 (7 goals)
Brunt 10 (2 goals)
Di Maria 10 (3 goals)
Sigurdsson 10 (7 goals)

Barkley 2 (2 goals)
Bernard 5 (0 goals)

He didn't score at all last season and he has 1 goal in 14 international appearances. If we're going to pay £15m (or whatever) for him as an upgrade to Barkley then his goals and assists output has to be in double figures. Payet scored 7 goals and made 21 assists in Ligue 1 last season. Bernard is nowhere near that.

Yarmolenko has 3 goals and 2 assists already THIS season and finished last season with 14 goals and 14 assists in the Russian league as well as 4 goals and 7 assists in the Europa League.
