2022/23 Andros Townsend

Decent squad player is Townsend, but, the reality is, at his age and after the injury he has just suffered, it would be ridiculous for the club to offer him an extension at the end of the season. I think we will have to release him and wish him well for the rest of his career.
Nowt wrong with a one year extension for anyone regardless of age etc.

Of course if a decent offer comes in though you take it.

Bit early for that, if he comes back at the same level as he was pre-injury I would have no issue in lashing him another year.

But we will have to wait and see.

It's probably a position we'll be targeting for an upgrade. It's early days, but it seems likely that a premium winger will be up there on the shopping list. CB will likely be at the top, but odds are we'll solve that one inexpensively by buying Coady out, based on returns so far.

After that, how much upgrading we're looking to do will probably depend on whether we are able to extend Pickford and Iwobi, and what happens with DCL and Gordon with them down to two years remaining next summer. The more of those we have to replace, the more likely it becomes that we end up bolstering squad depth and buying young players to develop in other positions. We would need immediate-impact replacements that may well cost more than we receive in sales.

Problem is though, he is not going to be up to match fitness much before the end of the season, that's when we have to decide about his contract. It would be a massive gamble to offer a player in his thirties, who has just missed a year of football, another contract. I think he is a decent squad option, but, I will be surprised if we see him in royal blue more than once or twice more.

It's all about keeping momentum up at that certain age in football and unfortunately thats exactly what he won't have.

Got no doubts at all that he will do everything he can to get back and we've given a lot worse players contracts.

You could well be right mate …..according to Fabio we bid for Mudryk in the final throws of the window:

“I think in the future there is a chance for Arsenal, but only Arsenal. They had a very big chance in the summer.

When I was speaking to my sources during the summer about Mudryk to understand what’s going to happen with clubs around Europe, they told me from Shakhtar, they really think this guy is worth way more than €30 million.

They received a proposal on the final week of the transfer window, €30 million plus add-ons from Everton. And they decided to say no after Antony to Manchester United for €100 million.”
