Sorry, BlackToffee, but your comment is just as lazy and offensive as the Israelis who label any questioning of what is happening in Gaza with the slur of anti-semitism.
Victor is lazy when he gets challenged, tries to use his body strength to win the challenge, fails and falls to the floor waving his hands in the air for a non-existent foul, while the defender sets up an attack under no pressure. He is lazy when he saunters into "blocking" lanes rather than closing a defender down with pressure, a la Cahill or Vaughan.
As mentioned above, Yakubu and Berbatov (that pesky white Bulgarian melon-muncher, eh?) can share the same attributes (not necessarily with the hand-waving and in Yakubu's case I don't think it is particularly laziness but more a switching off for a while). They do score goals, though, so it tends to be forgiven.
And it's certainly not something I saw in Anichebe's game during the UEFA campaign last year, so it's not as if people having been labelling him like that just because he is who he is.
There's enough racism still existing in football - and clinging to our own reputation - without you finding examples where it doesn't exist. Or are you the only permitted arbiter?
We're not exactly a Forum full of 'Big Rons', I think you may be doing a disservice, Vic's workrate has nothing to do with his complexion and everything to do with his attitude... as for examples, falling over when breathed upon while in a shooting position; throwing his arms out in crushing despair when a ball is played a couple of feet ahead / to the side of him rather than running for and winning the bugger... that type of thing.
It's immensely frustrating, because when he can be arsed, he really can put himself about and win the ball and hold it up well, but he always seems to be looking for the foul rather than the opportunity.
Talented.... but problems up top.
First, yes, I am probably being sensitive when a Black player is associated with the word "lazy" To me it has strong racist connotations. I won't apologise for feeling that way.
The first example above can be called many things, and yes, lazy maybe one of them. Why not misplaced aggression? Immaturity, where he seems to want to pick a fight where none is needed.
Again, falling over etc. Does that make somone lazy?
Are Berbatov or Yakubu lazy? Heaven knows. They are not as hard working as their team mates that we can agree on. Lazy implies someone who doesn't care, or can't be arsed, rather than can't do.
The advantage with Berba and Yak is that their work rate is made up by their scoring rate, similar to Lineker who, according to Sharpy didn't train all week, came out and knocked the goals in for us.
For my tuppence worth, when asked to step up Vic has done so. The jump to main striker maybe too much for him as yet and a loan to a championship side would make or break him.
If he really does believe that he is ready to be our main striker, he is sadly mistaken. But any player, whatever their colour who is "lazy" should be shipped out asap.
Finally, no, I am not the arbiter of race related issues on this or any other forum. I have a view as well as anyone else and all i am doing is expressing that view.
