...Ancelotti seemed quite keen to move him to a more central position after he came on last night.

He's probably a 10, but in truth I've been very impressed with his positional discipline. I know we've compared him to Dowell (who's doing really well at Wigan) but my big question mark-aside from the physical side of the game is that I'm not really sure he can do it in any other position than a 10. At Forest he had a great start when playing as a 10 with the team built around him, when that changed his output dropped. This Wigan team have built their team around him, and in truth he's showing how he's too good for that league. However I don't think Ancelotti or any PL manager will build a team around him.

Gordon in his short time here has played in a 10, wide left and right in a 4 and in a midfield 3 both ahead of the other two and then as one of the 3 in a 5-3-2. He's also played in a midfield 2 in a 4 at Tottenham and in all honesty not let himself down in any of the games or positions. We know he's also played as a 9 for the reserves for a fair bit. Even if the manager changes his position within the game, he just slots in and seems to know whats expected of him. I'm sure he will start to nail a position down, but that gives him an enormous chance, that a manager can put him in a whole range of positions and know he can make a difference and ultimately he can trust him.

The real eye opening performance for me was Spurs away. In a terrible midfield, he just slotted into the centre of the mark, won a couple of tackles and sprayed the ball about. That was mid game in a horrendous performance from our midfield. It was a real eye opener. We have expensive footbalelrs, Iwobi, Bernard, Sigurdsson etc who are all talented in their own way who can't do what he does.

...he’s not as maverick as those you mention, he seems to listen very attentively to what his instructions are and then apply them on the park. it’s why the manager trusts him so much. Saying that, the more he plays the more expansive he’ll get.

Yes I agree. I noticed a small difference at home to Villa. Players were hiding, senior players at that. He just started demanding the ball. There was almost a flick in his brain which noted the game was drifting and just doing his job was not going to be enough to get us through. He went on one run where he went past 3 or 4 and ultimately should have passed but tried to take on one man too many. He didn't play particularly well that night, but I noted that switch in him. Thats a good instinct to have.

Ancelotti will like that he can trust him, and at the moment we are clearly trying to set up to not carry anyone as we are not a good team. However as we move forward Ancelotti will want to let him off the leash a bit more. Probably give him the sole instruction of "go and win us the game". He may not be ready for that pressure yet so you have to be careful, but if he keeps his head down, thats where we are heading to.

More videos out of him working in his mate’s gym prior to returning to training . I won’t bore you with the pics , the quote though says it all . Work ethic is probably a new word for some of our players.

“Elite level training & an elite level athlete with a work ethic unmatched for a 19 year old “

I see him taking that left sided role this season and Iwobi falling by the wayside.

He’s promising and his work ethic is awesome for a young player.

There’s some interesting goals from in the video “ best U23s goals from last season” when he’s wearing 9 on his back. He’s not a 9 in the way DCL Kean play but he’s also capable of playing in one of the two up front positions.

I think he can really add alot on the left cuttimg inside and either passing to the forwards or curling one into the far corner like Coutinho.

Looks like hes adding alot of fitness training which is good to see. If ancelotti can aid his positioning then he seems to have the attributes we need.

Cant see Iwobi or Bernard taking that spot ahead of him.

His ball retention stands out and I dont really wanna bash the lad but im still not "seeing it", that doesnt mean im writing him off at all and he looks promising, but sadly ive yet to "see it".

Very early days yet tho.

Fraid I’m with you so far... I like him.. seems a genuine trier with ok skills, ok pace... haven’t seen that moment yet where I see a proper Everton first teamer.. But haven’t seen anything that says he can’t make it either... I saw more in Lookman and he didn’t stick around... early days still

Maybe a slow burner, as opposed to the ones that have come in, made a sudden impact with a moments brilliance, such as Davies, Cadamarteri or come with a reputation / expectation like Branch or Rodwell, who have all gone on to be massively turd.

Not ones for letting lads develop are we, if you're not the finished article by 21 you're sent to the knackers yard and told you'll never make it/worst player to pull on the shirt etc etc
