Go tear it up flash lad.

I think he should have got more game time with us (even ahead of sigfraudson), and should have definitely come off the bench on many more occasions.

Suits him and us, as Carlo wasn't interested.

Needs game time. It looks clear carlo doesnt currently rate him.I didnt think he too advantage of the small amount of game time given to him. I was hoping he would take players on and go forward. Instead he played it safe and turned back with ultra safe side/ back passes.best of luck to him. Prob needs a season or more playing away and then see what he can offer.

Carlo wasn't interested because the lad is nowhere near ready, we all seen the game v Rotherham to name one, he is out of his depth. I for one have also seen nothing special in him

....Ancelotti gave him more game time than Kean last season which indicates how much he trusted Gordon.

Whereas Kean didn’t produce a ‘that’ll do me moment’, I’ve seen a few instances of real quality, pace and athleticism with Gordon. The issue with him of late is he tends to come on and ‘play safe’, rather than influencing games by getting at the opposition. I have no doubt he has that in his locker.

I’m not a fan of sending our best youngsters on loan, but I actually support this decision. I’ll be watching with interest and hope he throws of the shackles and does what he does best. He’s a talent.

He's got to now go and grab any chance by the scruff of the neck to ensure he doesn't end up being a bit part player and the loan ends up pointless. Like Branthwaite I think this will be a decent loan, its a good level, local club and they are about 6 points from promotions spots so every game/point matters

Neville Southall, Seamus Coleman to name a couple who went on loan and came back much more complete players. The likes of Beckham have done it as well. It's not always a bad thing. Personally I'm not sure Gordon will make it, but it works for the club and the player.

Last season he showed he can fulfil both an offensive and defensive role in the league with his performances against Liverpool and Leicester

He's shown countless times for ours and England youth sides that he has real ability and pace and can produce game winning moments

He was in great form at the beginning of the season and if we weren't trying to get Walcott, Bernard and Iwobi in the shop window he would have come on in the last 20 when we were thrashing the likes of West Ham and Brighton and probably bagged a goal or assist himself

Since October something's gone on, he's been left out the squad and not playing for the u23s, the games he then does get in he has so few minutes and seems petrified of losing the ball so plays it safe

Hopefully this move allows him to take risks without Carlo watching right over and display his attacking ability. Beat players, get some goals and assists, hopefully be a part of a play off charge

Hopefully he can come back in the summer and give Ancelotti no option but to include him

Looked great in the cup games against the weaker sides but struggled to play his game in the league games, loan will do him good

It's a strange one this Eggs.

On return from lockdown Carlo did put a lot of trust in Gordon and, after Keane who was outstanding during that period, Gordon was probably our best and most consistent player, certainly amongst the attacking players. Obviously at the start of this season, with the players we brought in, his opportunities were limited, but he showed in the League cup against Salford, and in the second half against Fleetwood, that both his form and confidence were still sky high. And in those games he was outperforming more senior players like Davies, Iwobi, Bernard and Sigurdsson.

He wasn't getting close to making Premier match day squads though and didn't even make it off the bench in the next League cup game against the Hammers. Then we had Richarlison's ban and we all thought, or at least I did, that Gordon would probably be the most like for like replacement for him. He did get half an hour off the bench in the poor performance against Southampton, but for most of that we were down to 10 men following Digne's sending off. Despite that, people on here thought Gordon himself did well, and he was not far behind Keane in the MOM poll despite only being on the pitch half an hour.

That was the last we saw of the lad until he came off the bench in injury time in the win against Leicester in mid December. He didn't even make the match day squad in the majority of the games he missed and we know he wasn't injured at the time. Due to player rotation and injuries, he started the league game against Sheffield and the first F A Cup game, and was poor in both games. He had lost his zing and played without confidence, which is hardly surprising seeing as he hadn't played for over 2 months.

So what happened? There was the knocking on the managers door incident that, for some reason, the club decided it was important to make public. But other than that we are in the dark. What is clear, is that Carlo doesn't trust him and there wasn't a more perfect example of that than the weekend game against Newcastle when all of our attackers were poor and we were crying out for a change.

So yes, I agree with you Eggs, given his opportunities here are, at best limited, that a loan move is probably best for him. I know you aren't a lover of loans, and it's true that at least 2 out of 3 don't turn out well on average. As you know it's a fine line we walk with these young players Eggs and I do fear for the lads future. We can only hope that the loan at Preston works out and he comes back a confident and improved player.

But I still want to know why we had a very talented young player seemingly enjoying his football and full of confidence, and fast forward 4 months he's off on loan to a lower division with his whole future in doubt. I can't help thinking we've messed this up somewhere.

I think that's a little bit dramatic, I'm not sure there's any indication whatsoever that 'his whole future is in doubt'. I obviously don't know what the situation is but to me it just seems like he hasn't progressed quite as much as they thought he would and so they haven't used him a lot. Because of that they've decided he might be better off going and playing games elsewhere. It's up to him now to produce the goods at Preston and force his way into the thinking for next season.

People keep saying Gordon has pace. I haven't seen that. I've seen glimpses of nice technique and positional play, that's all. Certainly not lightning pace.
