2020/21 Anthony Gordon

So if he'd come on against Brighton and done what Iwobi did you would have thought it was quite fair for Iwobi to leapfrog him in the pecking order? Of course you would mate, I totally believe you.

1 assist all season.
Since Gordon broke into 1st team squad he's been better on the pitch than iwobi has, that's the reality.
Not to even mention sigurdsson and some of the others.

I know what you're saying but he's still treated differently to the likes of Iwobi who most people would agree has done even less with more time
I want Iwobi to succeed but the argument Gordon has done more is flat out wrong at this moment. You can argue a lot of things in Gordon's favor but not that.

Walcott could go past a man, then do naff all useful around the box, and we wouldn't call that impressive. Gordon has to be more threatening.

'Excellent'? He was good if not wasteful in the cup against Salford but hasn't shown much promise this season otherwise, imo.
"Walcott could go past a man" -- really? Can't recall much evidence of that in the last 3 years!
There are only 3 players on Everton's books who can go past players - Rodriguez, Richarlison, and Gordon.

But you're missing the point. My feelings on Gylfi are the same as yours, they have been for 4 years, but the point is that he (and Iwobi, and Bernard) all looked good in the same games as Gordon did. So it's not that crazy to think that Ancelotti may not have been completely convinced that doing it against League 2 side was enough to mean he could do it in the league.

The hyperbole in here is absolutely ridiculous. 2 weeks ago we were top of the league unbeaten in 8 games, with the front 3 running riot. Would you rather we'd given him a run out instead of James in one of those games and lost? I'm going to guess not, because I know you've got a brain (there are other posters who i'm less convinced about on that score). So all this hand wringing is basically because he hasn't played in 2 (TWO) games. Would I have picked him against Southampton? Yes. Do I think it's an unfathomable piece of management to pick a £35m player with 50 international caps instead, when he'd also impressed in a couple of run outs this season? No. Would I have picked him against Newcastle? Again, yes. Am I that surprised that the manager might have decided that playing 2 players with a grand total of 4 league starts between them on the left hand side might be a risk he didn't want to take? Also no.

Again, if this continues in the long run then i'll be asking questions myself, but the season is seven games old. It's a massive kneejerk to start saying he's not being given a chance already.
Isn't this the same manager though who the week before played a new CB signing at RB despite leaving him with no protective cover in front of him? Alongside that playing a young nippy player against a dour, defensive Newcastle side was pretty riskless.

Bernard, not much lately granted but he have shown som glimpses of brilliance

Not really sure on your point here? He played Godfrey at right back because the other 3 right back options in the first team squad were injured, and so was the under 23s right back. Did you want him to play Gordon there?

I don’t actually know Ancelotti’s thought process for picking his team, I was - pretty obviously - just hypothesising. Whether that hypothesis is right or not doesn’t really change the point at hand, which is that picking experienced internationals ahead of a 19 year old who you gave his debut about 4 months ago is absolutely not evidence of mismanagement or bullying.

I don't think he's even going to be in the squad tomorrow.

I personally think he should be, at least, but I just don't think Carlo sees him as being ready.

Might as well be on loan. If he can’t get into the team or bench tomorrow with the absence of Richarlison, it is another failure by the club to plan appropriately.
