2021/22 Anthony Gordon

I think Anthony has come on strong this season. He gives 100% and keeps on the move as much as possible to liven things up. I think though that he's often he's too enthusiastic pouncing on the ball and making a hasty decision rather than a measured one. This will come with experience I hope. As everyone has seen, he really does need to concentrate on his shooting and dead ball kicking though which have been ropey lately.

A lad with as strong a goalscoring record as his through the youth ranks certainly knows how to hit the target.
There is of course mitigating factors to consider with the step up to senior football which he is maybe experiencing to be fair, overeagerness/nerves etc.
It'll all come together for him I'm sure. I'm not for one second saying he'll be as good as these players but, Henry, Bergkamp, Kane etc all took a while to hit their stride and I don't see why we should demand different from Gordon.
He's been a shining light in an abysmal season.

I agree that Anthony could have a good career with the Blues and he has come on a lot this season but he hasn’t been a shining light in the last four or five games, far from it, he looks worn out and could do with a break but with the squad getting weaker with injuries he’s not going to get it and Everton could suffer the consequences of him constantly playing,Delph out on Sunday adds to the dilemma of not resting players for the easiest game of the run in last Wednesday night against Watford, Lampard showing his naivety once again, I hope we don’t pay for it on Sunday.

Must be mentally exhausting as well as physically exhausting to have to basically act as a senior player in you first season.

It’s been the making of him, but the risk is that we end up breaking him if he has to do it again next season.

No doubt he hasn't looked as good for the last few and I agree he probably needs a rest seeing how much work he churns through, it's a bit unfair to condemn his progression over the last few games though.

I'm not in any way saying he's going to be a superstar, that would be foolish. He is a young player I've watched with interest though since he stormed the U-18's and is a player I think we need to give fair time to develop.

I have been asking for Anthony to be rested for the last few games, not to knock him but for his own good, it’s not helping Everton at the moment and it certainly isn’t helping Gordon that’s for sure and I have also been watching Anthony since he first started playing for the Blues at sixteen so I know how good he can become but he does need a rest at the moment.

No arguments here mate.

….he might be wasteful and erratic in promising situations but let’s not forget he often gets into those through his own brilliance. It’s that talent that makes other clubs take notice.

At Watford, he let the ball run through his legs and made the opposition defender look like a scarecrow in the middle of a field. 5 strides & he’s in the penalty area where he failed to pick a teammate out, but his excellence got him into the situation.

Had he played safe on the half-way line nobody would be batting an eyelid, but he turned nothing into something. Special talent does that, he becomes a very special talent if he converts situations.

Special talent is the right term. Not many of his ability come through our ranks. A gem.

As well as his relative inexperience and learning on the job so to speak, imagine the pressure and stress he is putting himself under. A local lad playing for his boyhood team and under severe threat of relegation must be hard to manage.
Reading the various Everton forums shows that we are all suffering and we are not even playing…multiply that 20 fold to imagine how he must be feeling.
I agree he needs a rest but if any of us were lucky enough to be in his position of being able to play for Everton then I would want to be on the pitch when it mattered regardless of how goosed I was.

Promised myself I would try and refrain from being overly negative about our players going forward, but seeing people call him a special talent, you guys really making it hard.
To be fair if we go by the conversions most youth teams have to first team players he is a special talent. It's rare a player is a finished article at 21.
