I don't trust the board to give Lampard the Richarlison funds, never mind anything else if we start selling the family jewellery. So what would be in point in any fans wanting Gordon to be sold only for Lampard to somehow see us end up stronger with the likely £15m he'd get from the sale?

I know it was I'll probably come as a shock to some posters, but, there are more ways to assess a players potential than on a data base. If you use the novel Idea of actually watching the player some things that may be missed on the data base become apparent. Gordon has attributes which just can't be coached into a player. He has a great first touch, his acceleration is amazing, he is very fast running either with or without the ball. He's a big lad and aggressive with an amount of snide about him.

His down side are poor finishing, not getting his head up enough when running with the ball and not making the right decisions as to when to release the ball and when to go himself. The faults on his down side are all, if he is diligent enough, things that can definitely improve with coaching and experience. Even if he doesn't kick on the way he should, he will still be a decent premier league player. If, however, he does kick on, we will have a very good player on our hands.

Spot on

How?

Say he doesn’t kick on from last season, you’d still get there or there about that kind of money for him.

If he does kick on, you’re probably talking about £60m next year, taking the English factor and raw attributes he has into consideration.

We’d only end up spending the £35m on more dross anyway.
I just think you're underestimating the downside.

And the potential to make another bad decision doesn't mean you should make one now.

We don't have any money - and we desperately need to sign some players

Hence we have to sell our only saleable assets - of which Gordon is one

We don't have any money, answer need to sign players, so let's sell one of our only good ones right after selling our best so we have to buy more players.

Cracking logic there.

Wish GoT would hd been going when we had Rooney, we'd have had half the forum arguing we where ripping united off for a lad who'd only scored a few goals

Getting picked off by the likes of Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle. What a time to be an Everton fan.

Indeed…..

Selling Gordon is a mistake. Only player who really showed fight and passion in the final few games when it was needed. Another year under Lampard sees him improve his goals and assists in my opinion. Need to keep hold of him

You think keeping hold of the most promising youngster we’ve had in years after his breakout season, rather than cashing in for the pittance that is £35m is a bad decision?
I think you have to factor in how good he is now relative to everyone not just young players (not that good) and how likely it is he'll one day be a top level player (for me I'd never bet on Everton developing someone).

I'd simply play the volume game. Sell Gordon, and spread the 35m out over 2 or 3 players his age or younger who might get better. Then if one does become a player you're set.
