Needs some time on the bench

Yep, it's criminal that he's been thrust into a key position in the team when he's lacking in so many areas of his game. The reality is he, if he was at most other clubs, he'd have been loaned out this season to improve his game. We could very well end up ruining him if we have another stinker of a season.

I like Demz, but you cant say he would perform better.

I think knowing he has a solid midfield and defence behind him will do wonders for his confidence and we'll see a much better player as a result.

Yes fair point, but it's more that if Gordon is better than Maddison at 21 why wouldnt:
1) He be better at 25/26
2) We want more money for him than what Maddison went for at that age?

The Maddison bid is silly money from Newcastle, but if they are lashing it out, we should cash in.

I love Gordon, but I'd drive him there for 50m in a world where we can get McNeil for 15, Gray for 2m etc.

If only it worked like that 2 totally different players I liked the look of Maddison at Norwich if both was 21 I’d go for Gordon as he’s a product of the academy right now I’d take Maddison all day great player if Gordon improves and can get close to the assists and goals he gets we would have a very good player here.

Talk of putting him out on loan seems ridiculous to me and it seems to me that players going out on loan these days very rarely come back and forfill their potential.
The lad is 21 not 16 if he can't do it now well maybe he is just not as good as we think he is. We need to play him this season but not every game .
A long time ago we had a 21 year old who was the man of the match in a world cup final just before signing for us ,could you imagine telling Alan Ball you are rested.
If you are good enough you are old enough.

Of course it doesn't mate, it's nowhere near as mechanical, but it's a useful guide. Like you dont really compare a 21 year old to a 25/26 year old.

He had a very poor game, but he was clearly being played out of position and asked to job he isn't suited to. Not sure why that would make people think we should sell him, especially after a single game. He'll know he can do better than Saturday, and I expect him to improve.

Playing out of position against Chelsea no less. We did pretty well in that game all things considered.

For me it’s a shame Gordon couldn’t be paired with Digne as they both compensate for each other’s weaknesses in the attack. I can only hope that Myko has playmaking ability and can build chemistry with Gordon on that side. If we are playing 3 in the back we need big seasons from our wings/fullbacks

Can only judge him fairly after about 100/125 games.

He's still a 'kid' in football terms, two miserable loans didn't help and then being thrust I to a side fighting for their lives wasn't the best education for him.

Some of the praise he gets is more than a little overboard but the potential is there. Hopefully we get another forward option in to take the pressure off him and he can develop at his own pace without the weight of the world/expectations of the crowd on his shoulders.

This year is a big opportunity for him. With Richy gone hes sure to again get a ton of game time, and while hes still very young, two straight years of playing PL football should show if hes up to the pressure. If he can improve from last season and the team in general does well hes going to have big bids coming in for him.

It is also needs pointing out that not every player is on the same development arc as Alan Ball. The expectations in him are too high. He can still be a very good player for us without being a once in a generation talent.
