2022/23 Anthony Gordon

I think the question is not about the value of Gordon but about whether Everton would have a stronger team for the next two or three years following selling him and spending the money on other players - whoever they might be. It is easier to control that with a player plus cash deal than being in the market with a wad burning a hole in you pocket.

Can we get Gallagher plus an attacking player from Chelsea and would this improve us

I don't think I've said people don't understand the game.
So do wingers in the modern game play as attackers, or midfielders? In a system like Arsenal's 4-3-3?
He's a wide striker and his goal record isn't very good.
Hes a wide attacker or winger, not a striker. Regardless he plays the exact same role as Gordon and you wouldn't call him a striker. Martinelli has over treble his output whilst forcing his way into a team with better players it's baffling you think gordon is worth 50m but he isn't.

No mate, I’m not

I’ve been lucky enough to see world class players at 20, and you can tell instantly the difference between a promising player and player that will change football.

I’ve seen Ronaldo play for PSV, Christiano Ronaldo rock out for Utd and a very very young Messi at the Nou Camp. When I watched them I knew, without a shadow of doubt, that they would go on to achieve at the top.

That’s the difference. So please stop calling Gordon world class

Ok.
I grant you that Gordon is not as good as Ronaldo, Ronaldo or Messi. 2 of them are amongst the best to ever play the game.

Lots of players get called world class, who are nowhere near that level. Kanchelskis was world class here for a season, but was not at that level.

At 20, Pulisic was a world class talent. It hasn't worked out at Chelsea, but he was very highly thought of. Again not as good as the 3 you've mentioned, but we could probably go 20 years and not see a player of their ability.

The latest data fad for the sake of data fads, so people can sound more smarterer (that's the official term) than they are.
It seems to be a route in for new fans. A way to objectively compare the performances of players when you don't fully understand the nuances of the sport.

At least, that's my observation.

There is of course value in data analysis... but I think that's more for the professionals at the clubs themselves - and it's certainly not why I watch football.

Well Gordon plays a bit deeper really and contributes a lot more defensively.
He got 4 goals last season, which according to some is woeful, yer Martinelli averaging less than 4 a season across his time is wonderful. Strange how people intepret things.

And it doesn't matter what I think Gordon is worth. He's worth what somebody is willing to pay. People far brighter than me and you have dictated he's worth at least 42m. That holds far more value. These people are professionals, who know what they are doing in this.

They're not people on an internet forum who think they are being clever for making trying to split hairs between a winger, a wide forward and a striker.

That’s just a lie though?
