Everything that made him "good" seems to have completely disappeared this season.

He got the 2 goals and I really thought he would kick on from that.

Still very early days tho.

I think theres a couple of things here.

1) The level of the team is better now. I dont think hea dropped off, but people around him are doing their jobs. So hes not a regular fish in a tiny pond.

2) There is a bit of revisionism about him last season. He didnt singularly keep us up. He scored a couple of important goals, but people have a bit of golden age thinking.

I think hes at a similar level, but its felt as quite different. Hes still charging around tackling a fair bit, but is being held to higher standards. Hes no longer a young lad who's a bit of a bonus for us in difficult times.

In honesty, the club probably havent helped him. Lampard has made a big call on him, the club have turned down big bids (which I remain convinced they have over emphasised to gain some credibility) and the lad/club have made a big thing of him being a number 10. It doesnt help really, but I also think, if he wants to kick on, he has to be strong enough to deal with this.

Last 2 games have been poor for me. So hopefully Lampard can resolve that conundrum.

For clarity, that isn’t your original post, your caveats have been added by this point because lots of people laughed at the original claim.

Ok mate.

I'm not going to look back through my posts to check either way. People can make their own minds up.

I think it's pretty clear what is being said. However if people think that's me saying hes better than Haaland, they're entitled to their view too. It's a free country.

Most yellow cards in the premier league and suspended for a game only 9 games into the season. I’d call that a joke for a CB or defensive midfielder, absolute disgrace and sign of a dreadful attitude from a winger.

Any forward who gets more cards than he does combined goals and assists is bad news at any level. Dunc despite his reputation finished his career with more goals and assists than cards, even Roy Keane, one of the most talked about hard man dirty player finished with roughly the same cards as G+A.

If Gordon continues on the way he’s going he’ll find it hard, he’s already got a reputation as a diver, which is well deserved by the way, the last thing he needs on top of being labelled a cheat is to be labelled a dog of a player too. Seriously needs to buck up his attitude.

Seems quite a strange thing to come at the lad for.

I wouldn't play a winger who doesn't dive in 2022

Don't like him myself either. Diving cart with an attitude problem who isn't really very good at football.

Is he flawed? Of course he is. He's 21.

Every criticism can be coached.

You can't coach his athleticism. He has the ability to make defenders look like they are wearing cement boots because he can accelerate past them like they aren't even there.

For me he is a somewhat refined lump of coal that just needs the right coaching to be a diamond.

I agree with the turophile member above: give the lad some time and space. Football consumes waaaay too much preoccupation for many, for it to be healthy for one (let alone many)

No mate.

I read it as Lampard had more talent, I outlined more things he was good at and was de factor using him as the template, but that Sigurdsson had better technique (I.e off dead balls).

To me it's a perfectly reasonable analysis and not in any way saying Sigurdsson was better. If I thought Sigurdsson was better, I would just say Sigurdsson was better.
Well, if I was Lampard, I'd take it as a backhanded compliment that I had a good engine and could sniff a goal, in comparison with Sigurdsson's God-given superior technique.

as well as this, we're expecting Phil Foden out of him, when in reality a Seamus or even Leon Osman level would be a start - i.e. consistent, dependable, hard working - then let's see how he does with better players.
sorry to mention that lot, but there's interesting analysis in all of the stupid hype and fury about TAA and Salah - the fact that the system and tactics, and other players around them are not playing very well, or playing differently.
It's the same for every team - an individual can barely , rarely play well alone.

I think one of the main criticisms of him this season is that he isn't doing this a lot. Last year he sort of flattered to deceive in that he often looked really dangerous but then didn't actually produce the goods. This year he's often just not got into the game at all, with sunday probably the worst so far. It's a dip in form which is no big deal and understandable for a 21 year old winger, but unfortunately it's a dip from a not particularly high base and so it looks really bad. Coming off the back of what happened in the summer it was never going to be received particularly well either.

Why so? Clearly shows an attitude issue and lack of discipline, both of which are needed to be a successful top level footballer. Also considering his supposed importance to the team and lack of other options in his position the fact that he's already banned after only 9 games shows a lack of sense in general with him. From players like Balotelli to Morelos at Rangers, I've don't think I've seen a forward player in the past 10 years have a bad disciplinary record and be a constant asset to the team at the same time despite their ability, there's always the risk of an issue, whether it's other players targetting him knowing he can be wound up or just generally him getting suspended.

There's a reason Balotelli largely went through his career as a squad player, even in his prime and there's a reason that Morelos has never played a full season for Rangers despite him being a very good player for them as well as not being particularly injury prone. It starts with discipline on the pitch, if left unchecked it will seep into the rest of Gordon's game like it did to these two others I've mentioned.
