2022/23 Anthony Gordon

It was a strange one. He seemed to build momentum, continue that momentum with Lampard, then flat line a little. But that Chelsea game he was very good.

Not sure what he was trying tonight. Looked like he lost his head really.

I think the club hung him out to dry a bit making him the centre of attention. But then, if you're going to go on to be a top player, you have to deal with it.

A fair bit of criticism has to be for Lampard too, who had gone all in on the player, and at present is not getting the best from him.

Not changed my stance on this view. You can't rely on Gordon and he shouldn't be used every week.

Whatever you think of Gordon, I really don’t think you can say he’s creative (in the sense that we’d miss his creativity at least). He has a total of 3 assists for us, and none in his last 26 games.

Theres an argument hes our most creative attacking player, which sort of sums the problems up.

At some point though, we have to start selling players for good fees, to buy new players. We have to be more clinical about things. It seems very obvious theres far too much sentiment in the boardroom.

It’s how you measure creativity though mate, if your looking at stats your right, I’m thinking more of threat, penetration and attacking a line, grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck in the final third and show initiative, the rest comes.

When I was watching the game tonight, the thing I thought we missed most was taking the innititive, someone in the final third who would take it and take it on - it’s where we miss Richarlison, carrying that threat and initiative.

That’s what I want from Anthony, he can do it, the stats will follow, but overall we’re gummy is attack and it’s not helped by our game plan, but we need him to give us that threat and initiative that Richarlison did, to grab a game and attack it in the final third.

The problem we have, is he is probably our best wide player. We played McNeil and Gray at the weekend and were just as bad.

If hes not starting ahead of them 2, you're killing his value. So it's a tough call.

For me mate McNeil should be on the pitch when DCL is up top - Townsend/Dom worked well last season until Doms injury then it fell apart.

Playing a lone CF who thrives off crosses and playing two wide players who barely put a cross in is poor from the manager imo.
