….from an attacking perspective he’s not providing anything. No threat, no runs in behind, no threatening crosses, no positive positions, no shots on goal.

Maybe a bit of a ‘big time Charlie’ attitude, I suggest he gets his head down & gets back to basics. Get the ball, look to get beyond his full back & threaten the opposition goal.

Talented young lad, application is lacking and he needs to be more focused on his job.

i thought we should take the monies on offer & use that to make us better but he’s here & we need to get the best out of him.

I just dont see any of the things that other people see that hint at him being a very good player. He doesnt get involved in games and very rarely looks a threat. He doesn't dribble or carry the ball, rarely goes past his man. His shooting is generally poor, while his passing usually consists of short passes back up the line to the full back, and even that is hit and miss. His touch is inconsistent at best, his positioning is questionable and i just dont think he has the brain of a top player.

On a physical level, i admit, he has some pace, but its rarely a factor because he doesnt read the game well enough. His stamina is awful and he is usually only good for brief bursts in games before he completely fades away, and he is far too lightweight and easily knocked off the ball.

Apart from that though, he's the best youngster we've had since Rooney.
Agree with all except the last paragraph, it was Rodwell by a mile.

Too scared to try and take on a tugboat like Dan Burn.

Absolutely dreadful performance and its a common theme from him this season.

We badly need depth as any other side would be dropping Gray and Gordon ndefinitely. No doubt at some point they'll come good again, have a decent game or two but it's not acceptable watching well below standard performances like last night

I said a few weeks ago he needed to be humbled a little and a few laughed and told me I was talking guff. Appears that it's not that laughable after all.

I thought we were way too slow in the middle with the ball last night. It gives players like Gordon no chance to run in behind as the whole Newcastle defence were back and organised. Hence a turgid performance from him against physically strong players, then he gets wound up and loses focus.

We have to move the ball, quicker and with purpose. Onana was walking it out through the middle at times.

This is the most disappointing thing for me.

The first 4 or 5 games, he was getting into good positions, getting shots away, testing the goalkeeper etc.

The last few games it has all gone out of his game. To put some defence, both he and Gray put a good shift in defensively, but he is in the team for going the other way.

Up against Dan Burn, I really thought that was an opportunity to run at him and cause him difficulties. There wasnt anywhere near enough of that.

My concern is he is over complicating it. Maybe the move stuff has turned his head. The adage of football being a simple game is never truer really. Even someone like Haaland, for all his brilliance essentially does the simple things very well. He runs into good areas quickly, and when a chance presents itself he shoots.

Gordon last night had a good target to hit in DCL as well. His focus should have been running at Burn, and delivering balls into the box. I cant remember him or Gray doing it once. That's poor decision making, however it is squared.

…absolutely, pretty much my view too.

I remember taking absolute pelters on here in the summer when I was saying that a £40m bid for him was at least double his actual value. Lad is a liability, a little fanny who wants to act the tough guy after throwing himself on the ground trying to cheat. Worst disciplinary record in the entire league this season to boot.

Going off what lampard saying maybe that 100 hundred grand he was supposed to be askin for is true I though it was just paper talk
I hope Lampard and Thelwell don't fall into some idea that he's worth that because he's an Everton lad. Lampard has mentioned his 'connection' to the fans a lot and I think it may be giving him a free pass for playing like muck atm.
No way is he worth 100k per week now

This is probably the biggest issue at the club. We needed another winger in and failed to get one. Being stuck with Gordon, gray and mcneil is really poor. Gray has been better than Gordon this season but it hasn't taken much. But neither are really prem quality.
