Could be both, he hit very bad form which is normal for young players, then during the run of poor form he hears the stick from fans and decides I can’t be arsed with this anymore

The problem in general is fans deciding that whatever negative narrative they’ve assumed is correct for young/new players justifies the utter lack of patience with them.

I don’t think it’s just an Everton problem, I would say majority of footy fans act like this
Can we pretend it’s an Evertonian problem just for the discourse in this thread please mate?

We can’t seriously be asking for £60m. He’s not even worth £50m, but they’ve apparently offered that. Would be absolutely mental to turn £50m down even if some of it is add ons.

We’ll ruin this potential life saving cash cow won’t we, and bench him the rest of the season.

Yes. I was incorrect to say it’s a general footy fan problem. Very disingenuous of me.

The truth is all other clubs fans set up support groups for all the young lads and new signings and commit to cheering them on for two seasons minimum regardless of form. We alone are so bad we follow our scouts around, ask them who they are scouting and then once the target is identified shout Yer Ma at them throughout the game and on into their Everton career until they go out on loan or are sold.

It is a sad state of affairs and can only be resolved in these next 100 pages with intermittent posts from your good self. They will see the light

It may well be the case mate, but it's hard to argue he isnt a good judge of talent when you look at his record at Brighton and England.
Tony Bloom's stats guys deserve a fair chuck.of the credit for Brighton. Be interesting to see where both Brighton and Newcastle are in 18 months time to judge whether Ashcroft still deserves the credit or whether Brighton are still finding gems.

Edit: Ashworth

I think Ashworth was highly regarded for his work with England youth teams mate.
He was but it's not like he was responsible for identifying talent. Under his tenure the left back issues also crept in.

For the record I don't think his talent ID is actually a bit over rated. Brighton already identified and signed Mac Allister and Bissouma prior to him joining so they were clearly already doing well with their scouts. He improved with the volume and patience of kids brought through but that was already Brightons M.O which was already in place and Weir has continued.

His development and patience with talent is his best attribute buy again could be more a result of Brighton being a very tight ship than him specifically
