How is it a failure? If you don't sell players when you can for good money how can you possibly ever rebuild? It is what we have been guilty of over this 6/7 year period.

We don't have the commercial deals to run as a profit to create the headroom and do you pay Gordon 100k a week to tie him down to a new deal yet further weakening the balance sheet? Else you run the risk he could go for nothing later on. If he was playing well and said I'm happy with 30k a week then that is a totally different scenario.

We need to act to progress, if you have almost the complete team and you sell a "star" player (not sure that applies here) it is painful - when we have crap all around we need to the funds to get three or four in that you may get further windfalls later on down the line or those four players along with the few decent ones we have make up a team that is looking forward and not over the shoulders.

Have heard the same argument over and over again, year in year out, after we sold Lukaku, Stones, Barkley, Richarlison and here we are with Gordon - how's that approach working out for us..........

I think this is massively overthinking it to be honest. There's a habit sometimes to think that things only happen at Everton, when they actually happen everywhere and we're just less aware of it because we're not paying as much attention.

Gordon is just a pretty good young player playing in a poor team. His situation is no different to any other young player coming through at a poor team. We don't want the team to be poor, they just are. If they weren't, he wouldn't have played as many games. Because the team is poor he isn't baled out by better players. I'm really not sure what is so unfair about that to be honest, it's just how it works.

All points are based on subjective opinion of the player mate - im open minded to everyone's opinion, the points around it including my own are just a rationalisation of a base opinion - whatever that may be. Its a circular argument at this stage really, we're all just repeating the same points. But ultimately it boils down to how you rate the player and the arbitrary subjective value accordingly.

The move looks inevitable, i see the softening up in the media by leaks across multiple mediums.

No I'm not talking about his level of ability, I'm talking about how he's been handled etc. I keep seeing this line that we've asked too much of him, put too much pressure on him etc, and I just don't see it. Young lad gets opportunity in first team due to first team being rubbish, fans say it's not fair on him that the first team is rubbish. It's just more 'we're the worst club ever in the whole world at everything' nonsense.

He was but it's not like he was responsible for identifying talent. Under his tenure the left back issues also crept in.

For the record I don't think his talent ID is actually a bit over rated. Brighton already identified and signed Mac Allister and Bissouma prior to him joining so they were clearly already doing well with their scouts. He improved with the volume and patience of kids brought through but that was already Brightons M.O which was already in place and Weir has continued.

His development and patience with talent is his best attribute buy again could be more a result of Brighton being a very tight ship than him specifically

Ok mate.

I'll have to politely disagree and say I trust Dan Ashworth as a good judge of a footballer based on his record at Brighton and now Newcastle.
