If you buy in a CB, then we have lads waiting in the wings who simply won't get chances. Why not try Browning, Pennington or Galloway at CB? At least in European games when the chance arises. I don't get the logic of just buying players in when you have lads who may easily be as good, or better, if just given the opportunity. If nothing else, at least then you can sell them, like Southampton did with Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers.

Alcaraz was good yesterday, but I'm not getting too carried away. The defence was given very little to do because we were back to playing our usual game with an almost full strength team. Having Coleman and Barkley back relieves so much pressure in parts of the pitch we were being exposed in over the last couple of weeks. I'm so happy right now.

Don't know but I'm starting to believe that knee jerk backflipping is a prerequisite for supporting Everton Football Club.

Well if thats the case then whinging and moaning about kneejerk backflipping must be equally important in being an Everton fan.

Played well yesterday. He's a good back up but I think he's always going to struggle defensively against the top teams. I think he's at his best playing against teams that are likely to sit back, i.e. the teams at the lower end of the table who are also less likely to pose an attacking threat. His passing out of the back helps to get attacking moves going.

Last night when I slept, I dreamed of Antolin Alcaraz. When my dreams were turning to nightmares he stepped in and usher the bad thoughts away without any fuss the handsome [Poor language removed].

He's clearly the best footballing centre half we have besides Stones, maybe the only other footballing centre half we have.

I am Bobbys biggest fan tbh and don't see no wrong in him but I reckon Alcaraz is seriously under rated on here, if and I don't think it's possible but if he stayed injury free he could be first choice IMO.

Oh ffs he was under absolutely no pressure today from a Villa side who hardly got in to our half and Benteke who was shockingly bad.

Are people really saying he was brilliant, is class, etc. ? He had one thing to do from memory which, granted, he did well (header over our own bar defending against Benteke).

When some actual defending is required he crumbles and can only play one game every 6 months due to 'muscle fatigue'.

tbh azz, we've been watching jagielka and howard making mistakes in the same circumstances and they've been making mistakes (which get noticed) which have cost us.

howard was under pretty much nil pressure in the derby and yet still let one through his grasp. jagielka's been at fault many a time already this season when not being pressurized.

we're not a team that offers team many chances, getting a clean sheet under no pressure is what we should be expecting from about 2/3rds of our games.
