Antolin Alcaraz

Did OK today.
If he hadn't been injured so much I'd have been happy with him being signed as a backup centre half ( unless he's on silly money, which I doubt ).

Think him and stones could be better than any other combination.

To be honest, dont think almost any of our defenders, bar Stones, are doing well this year. Every single one are crap.
I like Alcaraz but think Jags is a better partner for Stones, as Antolin seems too similar in playing style to Stones in he likes to get forward a lot. Also neither Alcaraz or Jags look entirely comfortable on the left but think Jags is slightly better at it.

Isnt Alcaraz's trademark being a ball playing CB? It sure isnt 'pacy' or 'great header of the ball' or...............yeah, im sure you get the gist.

Tbh Alcaraz is probably the best header of our CBs, even if he does sometimes send it into our own net!

I know it is a Martinez goal to have two ball playing CBs but whenever have seen those two play together, both go forward at the same time leaving us a bit exposed. Might just be a communication thing but feel safer, particularly given our form at the moment, to have one CB who knows their job is to sit.

barry might make an interesting partner for Stones though.

He was fine today, although I didn't see any problem in Distin's play either, he solved every defensive duty he had and we know that he offers nothing in attack, but that isn't his main objective either.

Garbutt was a lot more shaky, but it's understandable.

I'm going to say it: I hope Antolin stays at the club after this season too, if he manages to keep fit.

Hes our best headerer of a ball in defence

Maybe im just blinded by the sheer terror of him heading it whenever i see him go for one. And fair enough, i would love to get a CB who plays like Matic honestly(and yes he is a DM but he is almost 100% defensive in his mindset). Let Stones go marauding and have someone who will not let anyone past.

Sorry but what? You didnt see Distin on his arse for the 1st goal? You didnt see him totally watch the ball go over him in his own six yard box only for the ball to be smacked against him?
Distin is the worst cb in the prem.

I thought he was one of the few who showed any urgency to get the ball forward.

Maybe Bobby should realise his policy to 'play out from the back' isn't working when his centre half runs half the length of the pitch with the ball, bypassing the midfield rather than the ball being passed through it.
