Antolin Alcaraz

I much prefer Alcaraz to Heitinga, even with his injury record, and he is probably on a pittance in comparision as well.
That's great my man, but I want my club to finally, after 3 decades of dross, actually go through a period of success. These type of rubbish transfers need to be stopped. Not good enough. End of.

Personally don't think Alcaraz was a bad signing for the purpose he was signed for - 3rd or 4th choice CB on a low wage and no fee and to teach our other CBs the playing out from the back Martinez wants. Very few teams have the money to employ great players in those roles, even Chelsea/City don't have much experienced depth at CB.

Rather save money and get a player like Alcaraz/Robles who provided injuries are kind (!) won't feature that often and spend it on the attacking areas of the team that have more rotation. Especially given the team that Martinez inherited - good defensive record but poor at scoring goals. We also have better options in the academy in the defensive roles.

You win things with great defenses. Start from back and work forward. I appreciate what you are saying. We have been hit hard with injuries.
Big Summer in the transfer market coming for us...

Personally, for my money Alcaraz was signed as a friendly face in the dressing room, same as Kone and Robles. It was about Martinez being able to manage the transition in the dressing room after so so many years of Moyes being the man calling the shots. Yeah he could play a bit, especially a few years ago where he looked ok at a world cup and for a free transfer it wasn't terrible business. Against the prems best and even middling he gets shown up by the barrel load.

Also, it wasn't his fault that having not recovered from injury Martinez threw him and other injured players in over the way. That was a mighty bad call made by someone in desperation. Desperation is where we find ourselves again. Oh dear.

So a lot of people would have alcaraz selected ahead of jags ? Ok.

Think people get a bit carried away with a "ball playing CB", i'd prefer a CB who can defend first and foremost. And yes i'm aware jags hasn't had the greatest season but who has

just because the cliche is a saying doesn't make it true, look at united this season.

Rather have a decent winger than CB at this moment in time.

A 24 year old Kanchelskis in the prime of his form couldn't save our situation currently.

Less 'titting about at the back' and more fighting in midfield. Time for the squad and the manager to get a grip. Sick of watching us bullied.

Have you watched jags defend lately? hes not been doing a good job of it, gets dragged out of position, [Poor language removed] range of passing and hasnt won a header in what seems like years

To be fair i think the cliche it true for us this season.

For all the poor performances we've still scored alot of goals, its the stupid defensive cock ups thats cost us games and points.

Would take a decent keeper or defender over any position right now.

Could do with another good winger though

Him, Jagielka and Distin are absolutely pathetic and nowhere near the standard required. They'd look half decent in an average Championship side, but get shown up badly in the Premiership. All three woeful in distribution, cannot head, have no brain, seemingly have no power and generally cause more bad in possession than good. Get rid ffs.

we was attacking brilliantly at the start but now in my opinion we don't seem to be doing much well, we seem to be taking the momentum out of our own attacks all the time and refusing to attempt killer passes that require a level of calculated risk opting to pass back only for it to be misplaced and concede on the counter anyway. Only Mirallas is consistently playing well at this moment in time.

not saying I wouldn't be more than happy with a new CB though.

My man, you put a quality defense at United this season and they will be Champions. Best attacking team on paper full of stars. But crap defense.

I'd still prefer him in the team to alcaraz long term. Alcaraz is ok filling in here and there but I wouldn't want him in the team as a first choice.

Still don't think jags is finished yet, after the Chelsea game I would have happily torn his contract up but he hasn't been quite that bad since.

Less 'titting about at the back' will fix a lot of their collective frailties.
