Antolin Alcaraz

He just didn't look bothered when he was doing stupid stuff. That back pass he just walked away and gave Jags a little nod.

Wigan through and through.

Such a massive let off. If they had scored from that I fear there would have been no way back for us, I'm.not just talking about the game last night either. A heavy defeat I think would have absolutely destroyed any segment of confidence/belief the players may have left. He was bloody awful last night, watched it again when I got him and that first 35 minutes were even worse than I thought

Alcaraz was terrible last night, complete contrast to Jagielka next to him. Makes you wonder what a younger distin or a stronger better defender would get us next round?

Didn't think he was that bad. Like the rest of the team dodgy inn the first half but commanded everything in the air and used the ball out the back well. Let's face it if Stones had made that backpass no one would be bothered. Alcaraz could play like Maldini but would still just take a load of abuse because the prejudice has already been set in stone against him. He's not first choice, he was free, and does a good job whenever he comes in. Really don't see what the problem is.

completely irrelevant, players who come into the team need to be in and around the same level as the players they replace............last night he was embarrasing, I can count at least 8 times when he either gave the ball straight back to them or overhit a pass out of play, and thats not even counting his episode in the box

Alcatraz also has serious detrimental effect on players around him. Given how much weight Bobby puts on ball possession at the back- Jags, Barry and Coleman all look completely unsure of themselves when he's around. Fairplay to Jags last night, stood up and took control of the shyte goin on at the back. First performance for me when he's looked like the captain of Everton FC

I think it's Howard that causes that insecurity mate. Was happening when Stones was there.

Despite the fact that he is indeed not very good, I'd still consider giving him another year. We only have two decent CBs: Jags and Stonesy and that's it. Distin's finished and all we have left is youth players who have no Premier League experience and maybe Barry who can slot in or Besic who has played there quite a bit, but Martinez doesn't seem to experiment there with him. So centre half is definitely a position that needs fresh faces in the summer, but I just don't think we can afford more than one new player, so unless we can find any free agents, I can see Alcaraz getting a one year extension, like it or not.

I mean, we're so thin in CB that if either Stonesy or Jags got a long-term injury, we'd have a very good chance at getting relegated.

dont think that policy is going to get us far

I can't work out what he did wrong apart from one obvious almost disastrous back pass to deserve this hatred?
You mean apart from being positionally flawed, weak in the air, weak in the tackle, giving away cheap free kicks and lack of incisive passing going forward? Dunno either

Think that's spot on actually... think probably a bit of a combo breaker. Howard not commanding at all. Couple of high balls in the box last night that he should of claimed. Jags had to have a word at somepoint. Speaking of which, Jags was class yesterday I though.

I'm not a very good centre back and I'd command much lower wages, why don't we sign me as his replacement?

Of course I'm being facetious, but the idea of giving a player that we know isn't good enough a new contract makes me very uncomfortable. Promote ty browning, and sign another centre back.
