03.01.2012 Premier League 20. round Wigan 1 4 Sunderland
26.12.2011 Premier League 18. round Man. United 5 0 Wigan
06.11.2011 Premier League 11. round Wolverhampton 3 1 Wigan

You're ignored a fair few 3-1s and 4-2s though. How does it make a defender look better if his forwards grab a consolation goal?

I haven't ignored them. I listed the games where they lost by more than two. If you think losing by two is a drubbing then good for you.

He is a good defender. My doubt about him isn't his quality. He simply can't stay fit. That is why he's depth not a certain starter.

Heitinga:
Over last two seasons, Everton concede 8% more goals when he starts compared to overall.

Alcaraz:
Over last two seasons, Wigan concede 20% less goals when he starts compared to overall.

So by simple math, we will get 2-3 million in our accounts, while at the same time reducing conceded goals by 28%, meaning we will only concede 29 goals next season :D
Simple! :)

Stats are fun!

It is for the losers...

And this is relevant how? I can't remember Wigan winning many games 12-6. Perhaps you have a better recollection of events.

I was making a point that in terms of judging a defender whether the team scored more goals then they let in (i.e did they lose more than two clear goals) is less useful a metric then how many goals they let in.

Say, hypothetically, wigan play two game one they lose 3-0 the other they win 19-18, by your definition the former is a drubbing and the latter isn't but the defending is likely to be worse on the one which you wouldn't count then the one you would.

The stats that are useful is the one you provided later.

"They conceded more than two only 9 times out of his 67 starts."

And I agree that makes him come over a lot better than i would have thought. As soon as you provided useful stats,I concede your point.

IF we can sell heitinga. Which we haven't yet. And which we've been trying to do for two years.
