He is a good defender. My doubt about him isn't his quality. He simply can't stay fit. That is why he's depth not a certain starter.

Fair point, that's better than I would have thought. It does seem that most of their worst defensive displays where when he wasn't playing.

So by simple math, we will get 2-3 million in our accounts, while at the same time reducing conceded goals by 28%, meaning we will only concede 29 goals next season

I was making a point that in terms of judging a defender whether the team scored more goals then they let in (i.e did they lose more than two clear goals) is less useful a metric then how many goals they let in.

Say, hypothetically, wigan play two game one they lose 3-0 the other they win 19-18, by your definition the former is a drubbing and the latter isn't but the defending is likely to be worse on the one which you wouldn't count then the one you would.

The stats that are useful is the one you provided later.
