Antolin Alcaraz

He did alright yesterday. Was a bit too calm in the beginning with his distribution and almost lost it a couple of times but looked pretty assured.

People were slating all the ex wigan signings label but I think McCarthy is an absolute gem, Robles (goal aside) has looked great especially for 23 years old and now Alcaraz proving people wrong. Just wish Kone hadn't got injured because I think he could have proved people wrong too.

I already knew how good he was, I listened to people who had watched him a lot and not people on a forum who didn't have a clue except he played for Wigan.

Impressed me, some lovely awareness under pressure. Bit of fannying around with the ball but I was happy enough.

To have Jagielka out and not worry about having that sh*thouse Heitinga come in to the first XI is a big plus, he's utter pipe.

Same. Wigan fans were always saying that had he been fit for the whole season then they'd have had a much better chance of staying up.

Plus, Martinez rates him. That's good enough for me.

I love how the "you can't judge a player on one game" brigade that defend Kone so avidly, are willing to hail Alcaraz as a great signing after just one game.

Yeah, he played well yesterday, but our defence didn't look anywhere near as composed as it does when Jagielka plays.

Bit different a player getting slated when he's hardly had a chance in the first team, and praising a player who hasn't played for the best part of a year and who did very well to replace the clubs best defender and captain against a strong attacking side like Southampton.

Same principle though isn't it? It's judging a signing on one game. Personally, I'm quite happy to judge a signing on one game but there's a few people doing it with Alcaraz that have moaned about people doing it with Kone. I'm just pointing out the hypocrisy of that.

Personally I think Alcaraz is a good signing, especially on a free, and was really impressed with him yesterday. Also, I think Kone is absolute tosh.
