Antolin Alcaraz

...more than any other part of the team, CBs are a real partnership. One drops, one goes, one covers etc, they get telepathic with experience. Alcaraz and Distin can be expected to have their dodgy moments in the next few games, that is natural. I thought they coped well yesterday because they are both good players but Stoke will be a real test.

He looks to have the composure but I think he lacks the physical and speed aspect that we're used to by Jags and Distin. I wouldn't mind him as a cover but after Distin hangs up I'd like another young CB taking his place with Jags nurturing him all the way.

Played well, seemed to unsettle Distin a bit. Agree with the above, he's slow as molasses. Controlled and passed the ball well, though he got away with some unnecessary high risk dribbling and passing.

He looked good ,won a few important headers ,looks composed and comfortable on the ball good positioning ,very good game for someone who has been out so long.

He's made 50 or so appearances for Wigan, it's not as if it's the first time most have seen him.

I've seen quite a bit of him myself and he's never been 'slow' he's not the fastest player in the world, no. But when fully fit he's not as slow as he was in our match yesterday.

Alcaraz is a very good player, best CB we have on the ball. Just lacks a bit of pace, but his awareness and reading of the game make up for that. Very solid, goes into a tackle with aggression and doesn't bottle it. Good signing for us.
