I think he did well, looked comfortable on the ball and seemed to do his defending well, but Southampton didnt really test us at the back, Rickie Lambert is terrible, Distin was all over the place yesterday tho, looks like he could prove to be a decent signing if he can keep off the treatment table, hes missed the frst 6months of this season and missed a few games for Wigan last Season.

He did alright, really don't want to see him playing instead of Jags against Suarez though.

I'd rather see Alcaraz against suarez then distin. Suarez always picks distin out and has him off in every game. Semi final is prime example.

Was it just me or did anyone else get annoyed with everyone seeming intent on passing the ball back to Alcaraz at every opportunity? That said he seemed very decent for the most part and probably the best compliment you can give is that it wasn't obvious he'd been out for months. With Jags out I'm more than happy to have him in the team.

I also think with Howard back between the sticks and Baines settled again at LB - we'll see a better defence on New Year's Day.

However, with Stoke's obsession for long balls and big lumps would this one possibly be an idea for Heitinga or Stones to play? After so long out, might two games in three days be too much for Alcaraz?

Actually just typing Heitinga gives me a shiver so scrub that...

That's a good point.

But I'd give Stones game-time before Heitinga.

McCarthy's first game for us was mediocre. Baines first season for us wasn't great. Jelavic's first few games for us were amazing.

You're perfectly entitled to make snap decisions, but equally you must then accept that you're quite likely to look an absolute tit.

Ive yet to be wrong about a player EVER, I only need to watch a player for 5minutes to spot talent.
