More than likely, especially at his age...it's more the type/class of player I'm trying to promote than anything else. Properly two-footed and skilled. The vid's more goals than anything but there's more to him than that...much more.

Nah, if they wanted to keep him they would have been negotiating last year. This would be the least exciting signing we could make. Bryan Oviedo will get more games

Yeah, but who is "they"? His manager Martinez? It may have been on RM's mind that he was moving on all season and quite fancied bringing his centre half with him wherever he went. Like I said, Owen Coyle might come in and offer him a new contract.

Ok, we disagree. You think it is a good thing, I think he is not good enough.

Actually mate, I'm not convinced that it's a good thing! I'm just trying to play devil's advocate in the hope that someone can convince me!

I think it'd be a very underwhelming signing, but can see why it could/ should happen. However, he should be back up at best.

Exactly. Martinez played 3 at the back at Wigan and the formations 3-4-3, -3-5-2 to accomidate the personnel he had available at, and to try and stop shipping in goals.

With our players we can play a flat back four!. We played with 3 CB's a couple of times last season and didnt do great IMO. With attacking FB's like ours, you need to play a sitter in midfield to make up the numbers in defence when we commit bodies forward, and we have Felli and Gibbo who do that role nicely!.

Or if Felli goes, Gibbo sits alot and would give us the cover so we dont need to have 3 at the back and basically play with wing backs so when were attacking we automatically have 3 back defending, all we need is our 2 CB's and an holding midfielder.

True that. It was a case of necessity being the mother of invention last season at Wigan. He's stated as much: that he went three at the back due to injuries and the type of player he had left at his disposal. Going back in for Scharner second time around will tell you how desperate they were round about last January.

If bringing in depth at CB for wages only means we can get Heitinga off the books and have more to spend on a striker or midfielder, sign me up. If he's lacking, Distin is good for another season, and Duffy needs some minutes.

Yep. I dont see the harm in selling a player who's been about as useful as chocolate fireguard, getting the cash in and spending some of it on wages for a free signing who has PL experience and is, apparently, pretty decent.

But I don't think Baines and Coleman were stunted.

Anyway on topic, Alcarez smells of fish.

Our full backs werent stunted, I think Baines had 1 of the highest assist rates in Europe.
think again talking at odds... we had a tendency to finish games where we had been in charge with full backs were one of our main if not main creative outlets, on the back foot. unless we were clear of a team the last 15 to 20 mins saw us pushed back a lot by percentage balls into the box or down the wide areas. Moyes tendency was to pull people back including the full backs and centre mids which drew teams further onto us and meant we were one of the least effective counter attacking teams in the league. someone who is capable of mopping up percentage balls in the air and acting as a sweeper who can release the full backs would mean the opposition look stretched rather than us looking fragile and hopefully mean we score more on the break than we concede. alcaraz seems to suit that role. decent signing.

Your opinion is noted

He's quite handsome, definite positive there.

Unfortunately he's fairly dogturd, so that's a slight negative.

I think he looks like a moody South American John Cusack.
