Antolin Alcaraz

I have to disagree 4th choice or not he has cost us valuable points this season, just because he is back up doesn't exclude him from criticism when he plays badly.

Exactly. We lost our momentum in the hunt of the 4th spot once he scored that crazy diving header after 55 seconds when we played Soton.

Not good enough, old and always injured!

I want him to be moved on in the summer. Bobby has impressed me so far but replacing alcaraz will give me every faith he has what it takes in the transfer market. If he keeps him it will worry me a little about his loyalty/blindness regarding favourite players.

Truth is we need better to move forward. Hope bobby knows it too and is ruthless enough to do it.

We shall agree to disagree then, like I say, I've not completely written him off just think he comes in the 'must do better' bracket.

Also Ossie and Nais get their fair share of flack too, Stones we accept his mistakes because of his age.
Aye.

Always said about stones or any of our youngsters. More than happy to see them making mistakes but getting chances to play then never getting the chance to make it.

Utd Home and Southampton home

Looks like a point at Stoke as well. Could have swore he got game time early round of League cup.
Although its not a lot of games its enough to call a contribution and I suppose we have to have players to step in because we are currently reaping the rewards of running Jagielka and Distin into the ground.

How about giving players more than six appearances before writing them off. Pathetic.
He's managed 15 league appearances in 2 years and he'll be 32 this summer. He's a crock and that's unlikely to get better with age.....

Would he get into the sides of any of our current peers?

The Birdman has had three separate/unrelated injuries in the last couple of years (thigh, hamstring and groin).

hardly a crock.
He's OK and a reasonable 4th choice, there are much bigger 'Injury Specialists' in our Squad
I'd rather we spend big on Distin's replacement rather than someone who rarely gets a game.

Never minded him when he came in alongside Stones but recently has been poor an too injury prone, rather Duffy get game time over Alcaraz next season

A consistent run of games with a settled partner would probably help show him in a better light.

In his 6 games he's partnered Distin once, an unfit Jags twice (with Stones as RB) and Stones the rest. CBs need to instinctively know what the other is going to do and its hard to build that up in less than a year of training & a couple of games. Stones and he are also a little too similar, he'd probably be better paired with Jags/Distin.

With his injuries and 4th place status unlikely to get that run of games though.

Personally on the basis of this season i think he is what he is.
A back up centre half who isnt really that good compared to the first choice ones but (IF) he keeps himself fit and can do a decent job.

He didnt cost anything, his wages are reletively low and you would like to think he is 4th choice anyway so no real need to complain about him.

Would like to see him not get a new contract and roberto line someone else up to replace him after next season.

Confirmation on this?

If true that makes me a lot happier.

In the four seasons previous he played 29, 29, 34, and 25 games respectively, which is more than any squad player centre half should expect to play. Ridiculous to call him a crock because he's had two poor seasons with injury.

He is a 30 odd year old defender who spent a large chunk of his recent career injured and his old manager is giving him one last oppertunity to play in the top league as a cheap alternative to fill his defensive ranks up.

So no official source but no club would give alcaraz a pay rise, he will be on a low wage because he knows its the best he can get at this stage of his career.

Phil Neville and Heitinga were our 2nd and 3rd top earners behind Fellaini last year.

Sense means nothing here.
