Antolin Alcaraz

I'm inclined to agree, but would add that he doesn't cop out of 50/50 challenges like Heitinga did.

He's not the best defender we have, but he is good for squad depth which we will need for Europe.

I feel he gets a lot of unfair stick for the Anfield derby, and people conveniently forget that the entire team had a wobble and not just him.

Im convinced we will play 3 at the back in Europe, if he is fit, will be very good in Europa league.

I'll kick off if those two start.

And then eat humble pie later when they perform admirably of course.

I'll be happy to be proven wrong, but I think playing both of them would be a mistake

I could live with Alcaraz getting a game if Howard played in goals

Yes yes, I know, it's terrible that I'm having a go at an Everton player. I just don't think he's up to it and I don't think he should have ever been signed in the first place

strongest side for our home games, get the points in the bag, its a group were teams are going to take points off each other so a good home record should see us through. i can see kone and oviedo being on the bench. and maybe gibson in ahead of barry. i willl be suprised if alcaraz and robles play. maybe atsu will get a start ahead of mcgeady

Still seems strange that we bought him when both Jags and Distin are north of 30

Surely seemed better to get in someone who was mid 20's, or better yet save the money and promote from the youth team?

I used to defend him quite a bit as well because he's not that bad as a player. But the more I think about it, the more I think that bringing him in was a waste of wages when it could have been spent elsewhere

I just can't shake the feeling that we didn't need him and he was only signed because Martinez had him in his team at Wigan

He was free and is on a minimal wage. What 20 something year old centreback who is happy not being first choice are you going to get for that? Martinez then went and promoted Stones ahead of him and is priming Brownung and Galloway ad next in line. Really as a fourth choice centreback he's not that bad. Unfairly judged on a game at Anfield where both him and Jags were unfit. For Wigan at the hesrt of a back three when he played and was fit they got good results such as the run that saved them from the drop one season and the run to the cup final the season after. Will play this year and will do well if fit.
