amateurI think his IP was out of the L4 offices and the account registering email address linked to his Facebook account. I think that's right, not absolutely certain.

On a serious note as much as I hate to do it, props to @GrandOldTeam and EAW for pulling up this exact account you’re referring to. It was funded by Trinity Mirror but tried to position itself as an independent Everton site. Which is snide, a lot it going on too as the media moguls want to control these sites too.
GOT & EAW pulled them up over it and the account disappeared overnight. Shame as some good content on it but underhand move playing on being independent when it’s part of a wider media strategy.
@orly
You can't just leave it there, mate, sowing the seeds of suspicion and division amongst us.
Name the names! Flush out the Club Agents! I want to know who has something to declare!? Let us purge ourselves of the tainted!
(Obviously not our resident MoshKoe hater, Dave, bless him. Please let him out of his padded cell btw - this is his zenith and he's missing it. Cruel.)
We should allow a 24 hour amnesty for all club moles to throw themselves on our mercy
Every Everton twitter “fan account” with over 4,000 followers should be assumed is controlled by the club or a media group masquerading as an independent fan. Particularly if they even try and produce any content. That content is dictated by club or Murdoch himself.
RIP EAW if so.
However, I do remember there was an account within the last year that was actually masquerading as an independent fan site/blog and got blown up as being something to do with Trinity Mirror.
Big ups to Orly for bringing this to the front for the rest of the world to see.
We really hope to be here for a few more years yet. It will be a challenge – escalating costs, legalities around access to basic club material, media companies operating under the pretense of genuine fan sites with the infrastructure to out-muscle the genuine fan site and above all – time and resource make operating a fan site a challenge.

There really can't be an accusation of anything being underhand here on behalf of the lads who runs the social media accounts taking up the offer of playing at Goodison; they very publicly declared their attendance with the tweet. Well, the Blueroom lads did at any rate. I did actually look at the time who else did and I won't be putting that on here.
As mentioned previously for most of the content, what is the prime motivation? Usually one or more persons being an Evertonian and wanting to share their views. Why do people phone in to 606 when they are already on a supporters' bus travelling home after a long afternoon? They just want to be heard more widely than the lad on the sniff and doing a handstand on the seat next to them. So they go on the radio, get their two minutes of mass media exposure, and feel the point has been made. 40,000 "followers" or 40, it's the same basic premise. Isn't posting in the Everton forum a manifestation of this? I could talk to family members about Everton; I could talk to mates about Everton; but I'm also sharing my views with a load of other weirdos on the Internet. And that's broadly fine too, because I'm wearing underwear while doing it.
Accountability and independence are important - to me, but they do not need to be for others to the same degree. A lot of these larger fan platforms cost significant amounts of time, money and other resources to maintain; do you pay for it out of your own pocket (very difficult for many people), rely on donations (greater independence but unpredictable and possibly insufficient).... or do you accept that you might need a helping hand from the Club or a betting firm in exchange for say, an advert here, a positive interview with an ex-player there, a little bit of (quite literally) quid pro quo. Has your overall content been cheapened? No, probably not. And in its purest form, it is still Everton fans producing Everton content about Everton. Let's also recognise that many of these individuals were producing fan content long, long before Twitter, Periscope, and any hope of monetising content, they've put in the hard work.
Should these individuals feel guilty about playing in an off-season runaround at Goodison, or rewarded? I genuinely hope it is the latter. Would I prefer it if any links to the club were a bit more explicit (steady)? I would, but it isn't really necessary.
The Echo, on the other hand, and Trinity Mirror are accredited journalists with a totally different level of access and resources. A couple of years ago on of the Everton journos on the paper wrote an entire article on his day in Everton hospitality and (naturally) how great it was. Stinky.
That article was just after we had another window of buying next to no one and had a firesale with the likes of Yak and Arteta last min. The Echo lost whatever respect i had for it that day.

And EvertonArentWe you monster.Interesting thread.
All the time in the world for fans who volunteer their own time and costs to try and produce something for other fans.
I've been doing it for over ten years - both on here, and for others. It's a challenging, tough gig.
Unfortunately - the past... I'd say, four years has seen a fundamental change - the rise of the likes of "Arsenal Fan TV" has saw media agencies see a benefit to "fan media".
I gave a nod to it when GOT reached 10 years old;
What I mean by this, is huge media companies are now running "fan sites".
A very quick example.
Take FullTimeDEVILS who boast "...by MUFC fans, for MUFC fans"
Absolutely massive brand - search them.
Then visit https://www.thefootballrepublic.com

LOOK, LOOK, LOOK WE'RE YOU. WE'RE JUST YOU. ORDINARY FANS.
Er, seems a bit desperate and very keen to impose that line.
Lets dig a little deeper;

Oh, so they're part of a network? Bit strange.
Oh - what's that? Fremantle Media?Oh.

If fans knew it was basically X Factor serving them their content, would they be as engaged?
This isn't isolated. Take a look at ReadNetwork, SBNation, Freshpress Media etc - all have Everton accounts.
Fan Sided is another, their EFC "fan site" is Prince Ruperts Tower with their nice little verified Twitter account: https://twitter.com/PrRupertsTower
I think it's a real shame - the GOTs, NSNO, ToffeeWeb, WSAG of the world are dying out and even if we cling on, we're damaged by association.
I'd encourage all fans to challenge who is serving fan media content, and what their motivations are.
