Apologise to Southgate

Weird feeling last night of being at peace with Watkins' goal. He might be one of the few England players I like.

It could be I hate the Dutch more.

I apologise to @GrandOldTeam for suggesting Portugal were the bigger international kopites.
Any football fan has to admire that finish. It was a great goal and was worthy of winning any semi-final.

Spain have played beautiful football this tournament - but when was the last time a team playing beautiful football won the European Championship? I would say 1984. True, they have also shown resilience and steel in tough matches against Germany and France, but they will have to do it again if they want to win this title. And if England beat them, England will deserve their title having taken full advantage of their luck when it mattered.

When a team comes up with huge plays in the big moments - Bellingham against Slovakia, Saka against Switzerland, Pickford in the shoot-out, and Watkins last night - then they are making the most of themselves and are putting themselves in position to win. If they do it once more, they'll have earned it. I think they've had huge luck, but - unlike previous sides - they seem to know how to take advantage of it. Everyone is stepping up. I think they have a great chance on Sunday.

Maybe it's all an act, the dour boring exceptionally late sub making pseudo manager schtick, the toxic gutter press scum balls can't line up against him fast enough, maybe he has absorbed all the pressure and hatred and nastiness to allow his players to breath and flourish?

I can understand people not rating him as a tactician, but there's more to management than tactics - creating the right environment, man management, etc. - and he has done a superb job. It was bemusing to see the way he was treated for qualifying out of the group unbeaten - being bottled by what we must assume are Brexiter types. The entitlement is astounding.

It is these people who some of us non-English hate to see victorious. The Faragists will make the very most of this. But the bigger picture has to be considered. There are plenty of better English people than this. And those who supported this manager and side have every reason to be giddy now. All I'll say is if it does go wrong for England on Sunday - and Spain will be rightly favourites - then please don't scapegoat some unfortunate player or the manager. They've done their best - and they've done England proud. England, despite what the PL propagandists tell us, are not Brazil 82 or as exciting as this magnificent Spain side. But they have their qualities. And, on those terms, deserve to be celebrated.

It'll be some going if the player of the season in Spain's top flight is run circles around. I'm not sure on the type of entitled fan and the connect with brexit and frogman, there's been nasty minded racist scum associating themselves with football domestically and internationally for decades. Not a new phenomenon.

Re tactics. It's not just been Southgate. A lot of the games have been dull quagmires, it's why there's been such scrutiny of the pitches. The attitude of swamp midfield and deny space and overwhelm any creativity has been a common theme. It's been blamed on cowardice and not wanting to lose and playing for penalties. It hasn't been a classic high octane tournament. I suppose we have to acknowledge a winter world cup and a lot of players involved having played top level football for something like 3 years.

Football was better when there was a bit less of it. By that I mean the appetite could be fulfilled by catching up with serie a, for instance. The product is there, I don't require man city or Everton for that matter playing twice a week every week. Saturation was overwhelmed some time ago. 'club world cup'. 'FA cup wild cards'. This is a stand for integrity.

Expectation has risen for England, where once it was a quarter final or even a semi at best (ooh err) there's somehow been an upsurge in results, yet seemingly not performances. Maybe it is tactics and I'm to blind to see. Ramble over.

Also the fact any goal has to be absolutely perfect now as whoever wins a shoulder to shoulder duel for example is now penalised, so defenders can just go down when an attacker could be through on goal and get a free kick. Non contact crap. Ramble over.

Throwing 2 lads on for the last 10 minutes who should of been on the pitch for the full 90 is hardly tactical genius
I would not apologise to a lottery winner
congratulations to the team though

Imagine if England beat Spain and he’s knighted after those performances 😂
Still worst team to ever win it is better than best team to never win it I guess.
Nah the Greek side that won it are by far the worst ever to win a major tournament.

Their fresh legs at that crucial moment made the difference.

Come now guys stubbornness and pride as fully grown adults holds you back. Don’t you make me vault you, swear I won’t hold back guys. You know who you are.
