It sounds like we struck a great deal there until he gets fit, comes on for a cameo role with 5 minutes to go and in his first challenge pulls up injured. Then we pay God knows what amount till the end of the season while he gets treated for his new injury.

Fair enough. Was very last minute though, wasn't it. Which would suggest there wasn't any viable alternatives in the club's eyes. I think we'd exhausted all options at that point and got Chelsea to agree to a deal last minute regarding wages and this injury.

Might well turn out to be the case. But then that can happen to any player. Even ones you've paid actual money for. I suspect the club felt it was a risk worth taking, considering the financial constraints.

Hope it will come off to our advantage and he can hit the ground running in the New Year till the end of the season. But I do hope we are not banking on him even if he did get a run till the end of the season and did well, just with his injury history I hope we are still putting a goal scoring CF high on the list for the summer.

Why? We dont pay him anything until then, and in the meantime we get extra months of getting to know him, evaluating him, and team/teammate acclimation. You dont get any of that if you sign him in January.
