Arouna Kone

Seemed like he headed clear about 6 Chelsea corners in a row! Thought he did well overall.

True this, he is good when defending a corner, was something i always like about Duncan Ferguson , he also won a lot in the air at the back. Kone has a good leap on him and gets a good distance with headers.

Yeah he might make daft passes at times, just like everyone else, but he also had a key part in build up play down the wing with Lukaku today which directly lead to a goal, important player today along with several other names.

People need to start forgetting he came from Wigan now. Him and Lukaku starting together is looking like its going to be a regular thing.

It would seem grossly unfair to drop Kone now, and Rom looks a better player with him in the team. Find it very difficult seeing Lennon, Mirallas and Deulofeu on the bench though, and with Cleverley back in a couple of months, the competition for those front 4 places is superb now. Barkley and Lukaku the staples, the other 2 up for grabs. It's Kone's for now though, deservedly so.

As I mentioned on another thread, it is noticeable now how much depth we have in a lot of positions. With the number of injuries we're getting, we may need it.

Kone has been very good, and has made Lukaku better. Mirallas as good as he is, doesn't and hasn't been making Lukaku better. Kone does a lot of the dirty work that Lukaku can't do. You can't ask Lukaku right now to harass all game and have the energy to burst past defences. Kone chases and can play on the wing defensively and in possession, or he can get up front with Lukaku and hold the play and link it up. Mirallas isn't as good with his back to goal like Kone is. Lukaku's holding up play and first touch still needs plenty of work.

Even though Lukaku had a bit of an off game yesterday, he looked dangerous and Chelsea had their hands full containing him and effectively allowed Naismith to play the way he did.

Anyone else think we may have started working on defending set pieces in training finally, was a marked difference yesterday to the way we've defended them for a season+

I have stopped hating on him and have started trying to see the value he adds to the team. He is going well so far and long may it continue.

:: puts pitchfork back in shed::

/steals pitchfork and uses 2

Hes done well to rise above the title of worse striker in our history and he will do a decent job for the team most of the time, but I still cant stand him.
