Arouna Kone

Was his contract up end of this season? I presume he has only been given another year?

Don't know the length of this but I think the extension is due to number of games he's played.

Which is a bit of a head scratcher when you think about the last 3 years!

Anyway, shown enough this season to have a bit of value.

Is it a co-incidence that Rom's first touch has improved massively since Arouna's been in the team?

He takes the ball in and shields it with ease and perhaps Rom has watched and learned his technique from match-play and worked on it during training with him.

I'm really happy for the lad to have come through such a serious injury and showing the sort of form he has always been capable of but never had the opportunity to show for us. Martinez knew he was the real deal and kudos to him for sticking with the Ivorian prince.

Long may his form and influence continue.

Andy Gray came into the team in the 80s and transformed our fortunes despite Adrian Heath being the better footballer.
Maybe Kone can have the same impact in this team.

Whatever happens, his attitude and the effect he's having on his team mates has been a joy to watch.

Let's not have any pretend accusations of racism now please lads. The joke has long since passed and it may now serve to disguise any real cases of racism we have to deal with.

Getting slapped down by a lot of mods this week.

Not even high res. Tut....

Happy to eat my words re; Kone though - never would've realised there was a half decent Everton player in there at one point. I suppose the biggest manfestation of this feeling was that I was not seething at his auto-contract extention on the day he scored a hat trick.

That's right 2014, Kone scored a hat trick.

I think a lot of people were too willing to fear the worst about Martinez' ability to spot a player when we were at our nadir. Kone never got a solid chance to prove himself, but the fact that I now moan when he isn't in the starting 11 is a testament to how strong a character he is. I still reckon this is his Indian Summer and that he will be a peripheral player next season, but I'm NEA and he'll probably prove me wrong anyway.

Kone, man. I was his biggest critic, but now I love him.

In fairness, he looked completely finished, only people who didn't post on here can go around acting all hard like they knew he was going to come good. 99.9% of people, I am sure, thought he was done for after that injury and his initial games after it.

People can whinge and 'vault' all they want, but I know I was not in the minority in thinking he was a waste of money and should have been shipped out miles before he was given the chance he has been given now.

I am delighted he has proven me wrong, he's been a revelation this season and I am more made for him than anything.

Long may it continue.

Naismith on the other hand, now he is crap.

I only vault the ones I love Butters.

.....I hope I'm very wrong but I said a few months ago that certain players who are heading for a contract renewal play really well but once they have achieved that goal their performance dips. I only watched the 2nd half and I thought Kone was very poor, very lacklustre for their 2nd goal and wasteful before that.

Hope I'm vaulted and he proves to be a top professional.

The first 2 years he did nothing to deserve any praise so really I don't see the vault being that applicable in his case. I am happy for him to have turned it around and am fine with a 1 year extension, however he NEEDS to be a rotation player. He should only be on the left wing when we know we will control the game. AGainst a side that can pass the ball and in the wind today, he was not going to be as effective as the past few matches.
